I you like to watch TV shows you can find them in so many places! You don't have to use HULU or similar services with built-in DRM restrictions. If I have a time (mostly I don't :-) ) I go to: tv.blinkx.com/ or episodesdaily.com/. New episodes usually are added couple days after airing date.

True, there is probably a thousand places in the internet where one can watch movies... but:

hulu = legal streams - when you watch the show you watch the ads! - the ads support hulu and creators of the show

hulu = quality, in free version of the service streams offer resolution of 480p which is more than enough. And if you pay $7.99 through someone in USA you will get quality of 720p! Tried that over the VPN - works great (Main problem here is - how to pay!). But free hulu is also great.

hulu = account in this service. You can subscribe to the show, get notifications, have a proper queue of shows to watch and... Let say you watch an episode and you have finished half-way through if you will start again next day you will start from the same place you have finished the day before.

Hulu is just pleasure to use and watch, but I have to say your link is one of the best of this kind I saw - thanks for sharing mate!

Well, all yours arguments fail just in the beginning: If you watch Hulu from other country than US it's illegal due region restriction and related copyright laws. So even if you watch commercials it doesn't make it legal. It is like to break-in to a hotel which offers free drinks to get one.

From a legal stand point is better to use any open and free (or paid) streaming services then use VPN to gain access to restricted ones. For ex.; Most decent TV providers (satellite, cable, etc) offers free VOD over Internet. I can watch TV shows which are in my cable package on my computer / laptop or smart phone as long as I stay in the provider's country (Canada in my case). But I can see only an error message when I try to access this content from "other side of the border" even I pay subscription :-)

Don't you think I do agree with those rules. All those BS about regions, DRM and such, are IMO just money grab. And there is one more thing; personally I don't like Microsoft :-) And Hulu is their child.

Well... I have to disagree :-).

1. If you watch something on the sites to which you (kindly) provided links - who gains beside "pirate" and you/me? - no one else.
2. If I access HULU through VPN/Proxy is hulu and copyright owner getting a cut? Yes. The only lose is for the company that do not sell its goods in PL, but if it is the like of Toyota or Coca-Cola - no harm is done (you can eat a cake and have a cake). Just the idea of restricting materials of that kind is plain stupid (and as you can see does not work).
3. What about Netflix? It is not free... even with VPN I still have to pay for it... just as you. So... what is better for netflix and film makers/copyright owners?

Hey :-) There is nothing to agree or disagree - it is a law :-))) Don't even try to make sense of it. This might hurts....

I didn't say anything about what is right and what is wrong in the terms of ethics. I just merely said what you can do and not to be worry about "Micro-police" knocking to your door in the middle of the night. Besides of it I don't have any clue how, linked by me websites, make money. The episodedaily seams to be legit and located in US. So they MUST obey US law. It's very possible that the pay some money to the original broadcasters. Same thing with blinkx. (Click links to see servers locations.)

With Hulu problem is not that you watch some shows - but where from you watch them. Why? I have no idea :-) Similar case is with Youtube - some content is not accessible from Poland, some from USA or Canada :-) I can think only about adds which will not bring any customers. For ex. White Castle commercials wont do any good if seen in Poland :-)

Also think of DVD/Blue Ray. Playing in Canada movies bought in Poland is not illegal, but... it is not legal either. And try to be smart :-)

Well... who's law? :-) VPN and proxy are not legal but are not illegal - sort of grey area created by lawyers who had no idea what is internet and how it works.
So... yes, accessing hulu form out side US is breking the law but if you are in PL you all this is not applicable. Again... if you download music or movies from p2p you break the law (in US) but not in Poland.

From my point of view I am just trying to make the best out of the worst and at least I can look in the mirror and say I did not steal.

Most of the people who would watch hulu (100% legally) with localized ads can not do it just because some one "on the top" though - " Let's block it and we will sell it to them later for 6 times as much... They do not mind waiting 2 years". And probably thinks that if it is blocked no one can watch it.
Even if it was true it means they loose even more as most of the users will simply download it of the torrents.

I wonder when policy of that kind will finally change as nowadays it makes no sense whatsoever.

If one uses VPN to access internet chances for that are slim (of course if you commit serious crime or are a terrorist rules do not apply) - it takes way to much time and money to find out who you are.

Some of them like megavideo and the likes charge money to let you access pirate materials.
This works like rapidshare or hotfile, etc. - the difference is that once you have a paid account you do not need to download and watch but you can just stream. They will do the download, unzip for you.
The main problem with this is that it is illegal, artists do not get a penny out of it and quality of the materials is often very low.

Us law... maybe but if it applies to law in different countries - I doubt. This site links to pirate materials (to sites like megavideo) but because it itself does not store or stream those materials it is not breaking law (in some countries - in France I think this is treated the same as piracy).
But again it raises question of - is it right thing to do? Somehow I do not have a problem (or a feeling that I am doing something wrong) with watching a hulu or US Netflix... but with this I do.

Not to mention that it take ages to find something that is working smoothly in decent quality - VPN works much better.

150% no - they do not pay and this is why they are cheap/free and have no ads. Do not be naive, there is nothing in life for free and if there is something that appears this way it means there is something you do not see.

Like with free VPN services. They do not exist.
Of course you can get a free vpn (vpn that will not charge you mony, will have no ads, etc) but most of the time it means you need to download a software.... than suddenly cash from you CC is missing or you are being contacted by "certain individuals" stating: you browse porn sites... how about we will inform your wife or something equally awful. Possibilities for crooks are countless but people like free stuff so it is easy to find suckers :-).

True, but if they would open HULU (and other sites) they could get localized ads (like in google).
On the other hand 3/4 of all ads at hulu are of international companies so I can buy their products in Poland.

With Netflix it is even more stupid.

How come that when an American pays $7.99 to watch movies to is OK and they do not loose money but if I do it all big corporations are in crying mode - OH! We loose cash, it is piracy, illegal, etc...

This was just because of difference in prices. And it was additional tool (cheap to implement) in order to make sure on some markets you can ask 3 or 4 times as much as on others. And they tried to apply this law to digital content but it is simply impossible.

So instead of making stuff like on netflix or hulu available for every one (in case of Poland there still would be way more people that would want to watch a movie on the telly rather than in the internet), they try to lock it down and loose even more because of torrents, p2p, usent groups and hosting services.
