Gość: Jola IP: *.bielsko.dialog.net.pl 14.07.04, 23:05 Why does McDonald's have this slogan 'I'm lovin' it'? I've been taught that 'to love' is a kind of verb that doesn't appear in the continuous form... Can sb please explain that? Thx Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś Obserwuj wątek Podgląd Opublikuj

mika_69 Re: I'm lovin' it??? 15.07.04, 06:16 It is acceptable -we can use present continuous with some state verbs when we want to emphasise that a situation is temporary, for a period of time around the present. Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś

Example: I am having dinner = I am eating dinner I am seeing her today = I am meeting her today I am loving it = I am enjoying it Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś

You can't use "to love" in continuous form, but for McDonald everything is possible;-) You can even be loving their food. Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś
Gość: naiwna Re: I'm lovin' it??? IP: *.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl 31.07.04, 22:18 Your "word-joke" is a pun. And to me McDonald's "I'm loving it" is simply something similar to all those slang expressions in Polish: "wypas", "wypaśny" etc. In short, in my opinion, "I'm lovin'it" could be translated to Polish as "full wypas!" :P btw... yes, you CAN use "love" in continuous form... for example: "I've been loving you"... :P I'm curious what a real linguist expert would say to all of the above. Is there one on this board? Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś
