I'm lovin' it???

IP: *.bielsko.dialog.net.pl 14.07.04, 23:05
Why does McDonald's have this slogan 'I'm lovin' it'? I've been taught
that 'to love' is a kind of verb that doesn't appear in the continuous form...
Can sb please explain that? Thx

It is acceptable -we can use present continuous with some state verbs when we
want to emphasise that a situation is temporary, for a period of time around
      the present.

Yes it's true, but sometimes they can be used in progressive form too,
      especially when they mean action.
      Example:
I am having dinner = I am eating dinner
I am seeing her today = I am meeting her today
I am loving it = I am enjoying it

forget about the things they taught you at school. i've heard too many of the
rules provided in textbooks mercilessly broken by native speakers. to my mind
everything is acceptable and possible so nothing really puzzles me.

It's just an advertising slogan so it doesn't have to make sense. "I'm lovin'
it" implies that it's happening right now.

It's colloquial, and I think it's meant to express 'I'm enjoying it' more
      intensely.

I think it's a kind of word - joke (I don't know how to say it in English -
"żart słowny"). You can't use "to love" in continuous form, but for McDonald
everything is possible;-) You can even be loving their food.

Your "word-joke" is a pun. And to me McDonald's "I'm loving it" is simply
something similar to all those slang expressions in Polish: "wypas", "wypaśny"
etc. In short, in my opinion, "I'm lovin'it" could be translated to Polish
        as "full wypas!" :P

btw... yes, you CAN use "love" in continuous form... for example: "I've been
        loving you"... :P

I'm curious what a real linguist expert would say to all of the above. Is there
        one on this board?

it s very popular in here to use words in their incorrect forms. the form "im
lovin it" is just incorrect but makes people remembering it.

          cheers

            I am lovin' you.
            I am lovin' the day
            I am lovin'....
            Forget the textbook rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody've been to America Lately??? Don't ask stupid questions then:-)

              be 'anybody'S been'??????

I’m loving it while I’m eating that stuff. As soon as I ‘ve finished, my
      stomach starts complaining.
