And that's a simplified method, too. I went through this quite some time ago,
during the communist era. Not only that I had to supply all this, but they
wanted to know everything about my American wife, and they told me that since
my American born children who never saw Poland were born to me while I was
Polish, they too have Polish citizenship automagicaly. So if I wanted them to
never be drafted into Polish army while on a trip through Poland while on
vacation from collage, I had to apply for their release from Polish
citizenship. SEPARATELY! With all the separate fees, etc.

I did it. I was told that back then each name of an applicant was read in
Polish Senate (Sejm) and was voted on by the whole house. Wow!

Some of the documents that I had to secure were:
1. Certification from my Warsaw neighborhood police chief (milicja) that I
was "in good standing"
2. Certificate from Polish Tax authority that I did not owe any taxes
3. Certificate from my last Polish employer that I didn't owe them anything
etc
etc.

I think it's much easier to become a Polish citizen than to get rid of that
honor.
