Frequently referred to as the "world's most beautiful woman," Lina Cavalieri was perhaps the most photographed woman of her day and was sought after by artists who all desired to immortalize her beauty forever in their art. She was painted by the Italian artist Giovanni Boldini (acquired by Maurice Rothschild) and by the Swiss-born American artist Adolfo Müller-Ury (1862-1947). The latter is now the property of the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.
