How to check whether it exists; just get it in writing.
A practical hint for Polish-Americans: when assured verbally by oily types
at Polish Consulates that you can travel freely to Poland on your American
passport, in perfect safety, and will encounter no difficulty whatosever at
the border on your departure from Poland, just ask for this assurance to be
put in writing, on Consulate's letterhead.
Then watch the little weasels cringe, wither, duck, weave, and eventually
turn abusive.
Never trust officials unwilling to put in writing what they've just told you
verbally. If and when push comes to shove, they will deny having ever spoken
to you, or will misrepresent the content of their original advice.
Get it in writing!!
