PRAGUE, June 2 (AFP) - Czech car maker Skoda Auto plans to launch serial
production of a new sport utility vehicle, the company's chairman Detlef
Wittig said Thursday.
The new Yeti model, due to appear on the market in 2008 at the earliest,
will be built on the platform of the Skoda Octavia using some components from
the company's best-selling Fabia model, he added.
The Yeti would be geared towards young people for use in their free time,
according to Wittig.
"The reaction is too good not to produce it," said Wittig during the
Czech automobile show in the city of Brno.
A final decision on whether to launch production of the model, which was
first unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last March, will be taken this year,
he said.
Skoda, which is part of the Volkswagen group, produced 443,000 cars last
year.
