Open Labour Market

02.10.06, 14:52
It's been mentioned before, but I don't think anyone's explained it clearly.

When Bulgaria and Romania join the EU, will the Polish government immediately
grant their citizens unlimited access to the Polish labour market (like the
UK and others did for Poles)? It would of course be a purely symbolic
gesture, since the PiSsers can't even provide the hope of a job for Poles,
let alone for immigrants who won't come anyway...
Or will the PiSsers deny access to cheap Romanian labour which would make the
economy 'more competitive', while the Sejm continues to moan about how other
countries deny access to cheap Polish labour?

It's a simple question, so I assume there's a simple answer.

AFAIK none of the EU countries will open their labour market to the newcomers.
This probably includes not only Poland, but also Czech, Hungary, and the Baltic
      States.

They will do as they have done with other EU states who put
      barriers/restrictions in place i.e. france/Germany/Italy on a reciprocal basis.
Meaning if Hungary/rumania put some kind of restriction in place, then so will
      pOland & vice-versa

Government never provide jobs for anyone except themselves. They are not about
making jobs, they are about taxing them, and imposing onerous legislation on
      them.

I would be very glad to employ some finance people from those countries if they
had good English, accounting knowledge and a willingness to learn Polish and
      live here long-term.

I prefer smart Bulgarians to dumb Poles in the same way that I prefer smart
      Poles to dumb English people.

Dumb people should only have jobs that don't get in the way of the rest of us.

On the news yesterday (TVP so maybe not reliable: Telewizja kłamie wink
Yes, the Polish labour market will be open to the newcomers. The rest of the EU
      will keep its doors shut.

i read on the bbc today that the restrictions ukgovcorp is introducing on
people from Romania and Bulgaria will not apply to the self-employed. in that
case, those from professions and trades in which self-employment is the norm
(i'm thinking of plumbers etc) will be able to side-step these regulations. I
still feel that it's not at all pleasant of the EU countries to deny equality
in the labour market (what makes one European 'more equal' than another???)

Gazeta Prawna October 16th, page 16:

According to Gazeta Prawna the Government plans to open up the labour market
for workers from all EU countries from January 1st. The idea is to set a good
example, and the government expects that relatively few people will take the
opportunity to work in Poland. This will affect future workers from Germany,
Austria, Luxembourg, Holland, Belgium, France and Denmark, where reciprocal
measures are currently in force – and of course the planned future members,
      Romania and Bulgaria.

From these statements it looks like the labour market in Poland will be
liberalized within a couple of months. But before counting on anything, let’s
see it come through. The government can change both it’s ministers and it’s
policies many times before January 1st.

Well, the alternative was actually paying people more, and I don't think anyone
in this society wanted to countenance that.

It’s true that migrant workers can take the top of the current pay push in
certain trades, but I’m not sure it’s desirable. Polish wages have to rise, and
they will rise to a level which is comparable to the other EU-countries. The
current pay-gap between neighbouring countries is not durable, and be sure
market forces will sort it out.

Market forces only work when Homo fiscus, ie the steenking government, does not
go getting in the way by blocking the free movement of labour.

The EU is based on double standards and hypocrisy. In the US, I don't see
states like California or New York refusing to take people coming to work from
Arkansas or Alabama. United we stand, they say. We should take a lesson from
            that.

By the end of 2012 all restriction in all EU are to be lifted. In the meantime
we should see more and more countries joining the common labour market. Only
Germany and Austria so far are declaring to keep doors closed until the very end
              (2012)

Do you seriously believe that in 2013 we will have no more restrictions?

Even if that were true, it still means that the Estonians, who helped the Nazis
kick the world in the teeth last century get in at the same time as the Poles,
who helped save Europe not only from the nazis, but from wave after wave of
                Islamofascists in history also.

And on that note, Germany should have been forced to be with the first to open
up as a condition that all their DDR people are enjoying full freedoms, and
many of these are the grandchildren of those who were wrenching the gold teeth
out of the bodies they had just kicked into the gas chambers.

At least the Swedes lived up to their responsibility by opening their labour
market thus apologising for the terrible and devastating invasions of the
Swedish army in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Britain opened up in spite their help to free Poland from the Germans during
WWII (though they later sold the country to Stalin). Bu I’m still waiting for
an excuse for Lort Nilson’s bombardment of Copenhagen. I also think it would be
appropriate that the British government pay compensation for supporting drug
trade in China. For Holding the Arab towns Ceuta and Melilla I find it
appropriate that the Spanish government open the doors to Moroccan workers. The
Italians should stop producing wine, thus compensation for the invasion of
France and the destruction of the original Gal culture only 2000 years ago.

I now the irony stops: I seriously think the EU and USA should open up it’s
doors to Iraq labour thus compensating for the illegal occupation of their
                    territory.

Their will not be any restrictions on the free movement of labour from 2013.
