You may be able to get something in a rural area.

I've wondered about doing a house swap, but somehow I'd be too scared about
letting strangers in my house - supervised or unsupervised.

It's a bit like an extension of renting. If you can rent to someone then
swapping should be easier still, after all, you've also got their home and
hearth by the 'nads.

But arranging a simultaneous swap is like other attempts at doing things
simultaneously in life - a good idea that rarely happens.
With a house swap, as with other things, personally I'd prefer to go second.
