Chile Becomes 21st Nation to Acquire Pratt & Whitney-Powered F-16s The
government of Chile has announced it is acquiring 18 F-16 fighter jets,
powered by Pratt & Whitney's F100 engine, from the government of The
Netherlands. The government-to-government contract was signed Dec. 15, 2005.
"We are delighted to welcome the Chilean Air Force as a new Pratt & Whitney
military customer," said Tom Farmer, President, Pratt & Whitney Military
Engines. "Chile becomes the 21st nation to acquire Pratt powered F-16s,
further recognizing the popularity of this engine and aircraft combination on
the international scene."
The F-16 Block 15 aircraft are powered by the F100-PW-220 engine. The Chilean
Air Force will fly 16 of the aircraft, and use the remaining two for spares.
The aircraft are expected to arrive in Santiago, Chile, in the fall of this
year.
Pratt & Whitney will provide logistical support for the engines, including
support equipment, training and spare parts.
