The General organization of Remote Sensing was constituted in Syria, in
February 1986 in accordance with the Legislative Decree No. /8/. It has thus
replaced the National Remote Sensing Center which was established in the
Syrian Arab Republic, through an ad hoc Steering Committee in 1981. The
Organization is located in Sabbora area (about 17Km West of Damascus). The
Organization's total area is 250,000 m2, including the main building the
student dormitory, the guest house and the recreation area.
أحدثت الهيئة العامة للاستشعار عن بعد في سورية في شباط 1968 بموجب المرسوم التشريعي
رقم /8/ و حلت بذلك محل المركز الوطني للاستشعار عن بعد الذي أسس في الجمهورية العربية
السورية عن طريق لجنة إنجاز خاصة في عام 1981. و تقع الهيئة في منطقة الصبورة، حوالي /17
/ كم غرب مدينة دمشق، على مساحة إجمالية قدرها 250,000 م2. و تتضمن مبنى رئيسي و
مبنى الطلبة و مبنى الضيافة و ملعب سلة و مسبح. و قد أنيطت بالهيئة أعمال المسح
الفضائي و الجوي و الأرضي الخاص بتقنيات الاستشعار عن بعد و تحليل المعطيات الناتجة عنها
بهدف الاستفادة منها في مجالات استكشاف و استثمار الموارد الطبيعية و الدراسات المتعلقة
بالبيئة في الجمهورية العربية السورية.






Our Mission
Is to collect data about an object or phenomena without being in physical
contact with that object or that phenomena using electronical or photic
equipment's loaded by either lift or balloon or low, medium and high altitudes
aircraft's, satellites or inhabited and uninhabited space crafts.

Remotely sensed data are sent to the ground receiving stations, where can be
processed using special hardware and software and are distributed in digital
or photographic format also they can be analyzed in order to extract the
needed information, and the results can be introduced as a thematic maps,
statistical information or reports then they are submitted to the utilizers,
and decision makers to be used in development and planning.

GORS has carried out many mutual projects and studies in cooperation with that
bodies in Syria.

External Cooperation

Arab Countries

GORS cooperates with all Arab countries and the Arab league. GORS has
cooperated with Arab League Educational Culture and Scientific Organization in
holding the First Arab Conference on Space Research, GIS and Survey Sciences
in Damascus during 29 Oct. -2 Nov. 1995. The Second Arab Conference on Remote
Sensing and Space Sciences in Cairo during 2-5 Dec. 1997. GORS is seeking to
establish an Arab Space Agency.



Foreign Countries

GORS cooperates with the following foreign countries and international bodies:
Germany, France, Austria, Italy, England, Poland, The Netherlands, Cyprus,
USA, Canada, Russia, Japan, Pakistan, Turkey, India, ISPRS and the United
Nations.

the sky god Anu.
The Bull of Heaven appears in the Epic of Gilgamesh. After Gilgamesh upsets
the goddess Ishtar, she convinces her father Anu to send the Bull of Heaven to
earth to destroy the crops and kill people. However, Gilgamesh and Enkidu kill
the Bull of Heaven.

The gods are angry that the Bull of Heaven has been killed. As punishment for
