I kindly inform that...

27.07.10, 13:46
Is there any better way to express it in English? "I kindly
inform that
... (e.g. the documents should be supplied within 2
weeks)" sonds so Polish. On the other hand, there is this subject
(I) and the verb that shuld express providing information. Both of
them shuld be used.

Please take this as a rather narrow minded comment from someone who has been involved in creating official government forms and getting reactions from them. There are many different possibilities, but I would prefer donnaanna's second option changed slightly to more clearly state 'Please note that the documents need to be forwarded within two weeks...'.

Some explanations, if you would like them. 'I would like to kindly inform you' has you telling the reader that you are being kind, when in fact you are making things difficult by limiting the period of action. You are also splitting the infinitive - to inform, which annoys some people. 'I would like to advise' is pointless, as your personal satisfaction is irrelevant - you have to tell them or you will be failing to give vital information. Finally, you will be surprised how many people who, on failing to send in the documents in the period, will argue that 'documents should be forwarded' doesn't say that they must. Avoiding this helps avoid taking time to respond to idiotic excuses.

Sorry, please ignore my split infinitive comment. I remember now that that was my interpretation of your version, not your words.
