erwas well, soon... 27.05.04, 05:08 it's not really me, its the computer. Hopper, hm... I feel a bit guilty liking looking at his work. the dark side of Norman Rockwell. still, I do get a kind of thrill from seeing his stuff, although, if in that vein, my eyes will dart for comfort to a Marini still-life, but to have some real purpose in looking at a painting I will fall endlessly into a Rothko. mostly though, I sit gazing at my own work; whether I like it or not. A bit like, in literary terms, secretly enjoying 'Rabbit, run' when you should be spending time with Molloy... well, Beckett, I mean... The only time I ever spent as much as Ł5 just for looking at... art was for looking at Rothko's at the Tate in '86 or 87... Yeap, that's how tight-fisted I am! And ham-fisted, too, of course... I can do the sitting & gazing if that's somewhere on the net (which I haven't found :() - in the meantime of course - taking a break from the exercises promptly set by the teacher;) Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś
erwas Re: well, soon... 29.05.04, 05:43 just at a casual glance you use of articles seems much improved since your last post. the bill is the (tele-)mail. you know, it's just too damn hard getting things on-line. I guess it's a different story for someone making sales or atracting attention to a product, or some such scheme; then it is probably worth the effort. I just wait around and see what other people will do for me, which is usually what I deserve - nothing. sometimes some sleazy, cheap show or wheeler-dealer will post something of mine (and never tell me), but it usually looks like shit (which is, in my opinion the main selling point of my work. that, together with a high degree of barely-visibility). but I can explain that. are you ready to make a purchase? meanwhile, I'm glad that you're still around. Thanks a million!!! The unimaginative you who'd decide that a (tele-) mail would come to something like a flick of the fingers. But there we go, after hours of strenuous work I managed to send it off. Hope you got it. If not, I'll have to resort to cS's ways... ha ha > you know, it's just too damn hard getting things on-line. Well, I just offered to do the sitting and gazing (the compasionate part of me - in case you really hated the gazing yourself;). Then I might turn into a full- time... what? admirer? OK, if your works can't be seen, can they be talked about (and it'd be you who does the talking)? For the time being I could only hazard a guess. You know, your 'darting for comfort to a Marini still life' (btw I haven't found a still life by Marini on the net) and feeling guilty when liking Hopper... a purchase you say? Well, I wouldn't like to buy a cheap shit, on the other hand aren't you too dear? > meanwhile, I'm glad that you're still around. :))) likewise I happen to be - at times, though I'm trying to refrain... erwas Re: well, soon... 02.06.04, 06:19 did I say Marini. I meant Morandi. the high degree of barely-visibility I am talkig about refers not to the actual pieces, but to difficulties with reproducing them. they are large-ish, up to a third higher than an average standing person and the same degree wider than same person with outstreched arms. one colour dominates, usualy a red or a blue, and mostly there is not much seperation into areas, though many variations of tone, texture, and suchlike. you really have to keep moving to see the pieces, no position allows for the whole to be seen at once. this makes reproduction nonsensical, unless it is video film pan or some kind of animation conveying the changing nature of what you see when you change position. the medium is traditional: oil on canvas, but to escape from out-of-control artisteeek flourishes of brushwork or other fancy applications of paint I have resorted to stencilling a small interlocking shape all over the surface. each seperate shape is rarely visible, but its occasional (accidental) seperations and interplay with underlying colours and surfaces is what creates the WHOLE. I'm into wholes. that's all I care about anymore. my right hemisphere does not tolerate any configurations that cannot be synthesised into into yer actual gestalt, you see. my left hemisphere has been beaten into submission, and now knows how to behave itself when I work. and I really don't sell much work. the University (of NM) Art Dept. has been giving me shows, out of pity, and I'll show some stuff at Alburqerque Museum annual Contemporary. commercial galleries give me the creeps, but I'm going to have to get over that real soon, or my family will throw me out into the street. sadly, I can go on babbling about this stuff to anyone who as much as hints a faint little question. and you DID kind of ask. Indeed, and I am still willing to read. As for screening your works - why don't you seek advice from your favourite film director? ;) Now look erwas, my better half says it's not fair to come here and write nice things and try being liked and hide the real bitchiness of mine from the virtual world... And I had to agree with him and have to keep away from this place - learning in the meantime - yes, now I'm finding English really difficult. So let's cut a deal - you do the writing here (I mean your works) and I'll do the reading (he didn't say there was anything wrong about being a bitchy reader)... Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś
