rośnie z roku na rok = is growing by the year (year by year) ?

In tournaments take part 5-player teams which compete on a specially prepared
game-field. -something wrong with the word order??

Just leave out "take part", "teams" and "game" those words are superfluous:
In turnaments 5-player teams compete on a specialy prepared field.

always the same problem -too many words

          "Grows [increases] year by year".

            hmmm
I'd rather use the continous form as the process I refer to is still going on...

      Your questions:
      1. rośnie z roku na rok = is growing by the year (year by year) ?

2.In tournaments take part 5-player teams which compete on a specially prepared
game-field. -something wrong with the word order??

      My reply:
      1. Grows from year to year.
I understand that use of BY means that something grows but differenty in
each year. Use of TO means same and continuous growth.

      2. Here the problem started with not concentrating on the subject ( it
come first in the sentence, excepting adjectives). I understand that the
      subject is the TEAMS.
      Therefore:
Five player teams compete on a specially prepared field.
Note no GAME with Field, game is understood once you say players.
      Remember order:
      (Description of subject)(Subject)(Action)(Location etc.).

Keep trying - Many heads are usually better than one, OR, There is strength
      in numbers.

still I'm not convinced that there should be 'grows' instead of 'is growing'

the process is still in progress...

How about `keeps growing...', then? :)

Grows IS action, it is a verb.
Growing is a descriprion. Notice the difference:
'A tree grows. Trees grow.' Compate to 'Growing Tree/s.'
By the way, thanks, I have not thought about sentence structure for
tree decades and this refreshes the thinking process.
