stop doing/stop to do

IP: *.internetdsl.tpnet.pl 01.09.04, 15:05
chyba popadam w paranoje...
czyli:
stop smoking=rzucic palenie
stop to smoke=przestac palic papierosa.

Co jest...??????????????????????????????????

ten ktory tak twierdzi, to jakis niedouczony

        Zdecydowanie zmień lektora.
Niestety, bywają tacy. Miałem kiedyś ucznia na korepetycjach, którego profesor w liceum nastawiał pewnego dnia kilkanaście pał, bo uczniowie mówili "two thousand three hundred twenty" zamiast "two thousands three hundreds twenty".
Twój lektor cierpi na tą samą chorobę niewiedzy, co ten profesor z krakowskiego liceum.

S/He must have punished you for placing him/her only fifth on your list;))

You are not getting mad !!!
Your teacher would probably benefit from some revision

        Let's have a look at

        cease
        finish
        quit
        stop

Of these only "cease" can be complemented by both infinitives and - INGs. The
others are restricted to the -INGs."Stop" is particularly interesting because
it can be followed by an infinitive, but the infinitive in this case is NOT a
        complement, but a modifying adverbial.

        He stopped to cook dinner.

means that the subject ceased some other activity IN ORDER TO cook
dinner, not that the activity of cooking is stopped. Notice that this
meaning does not arise with *cease*:

He ceased to cook dinner after he married.

means that the subject does not cook dinner anymore.

        Regards

        pozdrowieni dla 5 lektorów

        "Co jest...??????????????????????????????????"

        Hi, abby.
Are those five experts a highly qualified home brew or the 'natives'?
        Have you hired them?

And, well, yes, I'd like to question the whole new meaning of 'qualified', the
word seems to have acquired in Poland recently...

Yes, this, among other unreasonable complexes...
