What is she babbling about?

28.12.04, 22:15
I just overheard JLo's "Jenny from the inner-city-ghetto-block" song and was wondering what the first verse actually meant. What is she on about singing: "Don't believe all the rocks that I got". Do you have any idea? For all I know this may just be your average Brooklyn-spic (not to be rude, though ;)) talk but I'll be damned if I know the meaning of it. Did somebody throw rocks at the poor girl during her concerts? ;)) Seriously, though - of course I do get the general idea (money, glamour) but the specifics somehow escape me. Is it about jewelry? Anyone to enlighten me?

nadal jest taka normalna dziewczya jak inni - from the block - z sąsiedniej
kamienicy na np. Targówku. Wygląda na to że jej doradcy zdecydowali, że za mało
płytek sprzedaje w gettach bo może se myślą że ona nie jest jedną z nich.

So there. Do you feel enlightened now? Because I don't know, it might be all
      just b/s.

        Is it "believe"?

I remember it as "don't be fooled by the rocks that i've got", and I remember
it quite disctinctly cause we even once joked with my friends: "don't be fooled
by the rocks that i've got - in reality i'm still poor" :)))

"The rocks" is a slang for jewerly made of precious metals set with gems. In
her case it's most likely diamonds, the world's most boring stone, yet evoking
that aura of "I have arrived" in her neck of the woods...

      Cheers,

I'm still, I'm still Lola from the block (3-cie pietro, druga klatka
      schodowa)...

I forgot to add that she is trying to convince us that she didn't really
receive all the jewerly that we were told she received from the guys she dated.
And even when she did, it didn't matter. Why not? Because her "love don't cost
      a thing"...

By the way, I was offered a position of a Dean of Harvard Language Studies the
other day. Almost took it but, after some agonizing soul searching, I decided
that I can do more good dedicating myself to this forum. Why? 'Cause my advice
      don't cost a thing...

Thank you guys! Who'd've thought JLo could be soooo inspring.
Anyways, I just wanted to know what the "rocks" were about, I probably didn't make myself clear. I do get the general drift ;) Thank you all the same!

And that's why we love you!!! The generosity and altruism is just in your blood! ;))

Jan, it's all ghetto speak. You need to fly out to NYC and learn some - maybe
then you'll have more luck with the komisja:)

Yes, I think I really must. Besides, Giertych is after me anyway.. ;)

      I think rocks are specifically diamonds. And I love Jay Lo's "Ain't it funny";
      after a moment's reflection, I guess it's because of the "o-oh-oh"'s; I
like "If you had my love". I can't stand the rest of her songs, though.
