In a near unanimous vote, a grim and subdued House tonight expelled
Representative James A. Traficant Jr. a maverick Ohio Democrat who was
convicted in April on 10 counts of bribery, racketeering and corruption.

In the end, after nine terms in the House, Mr. Traficant, 61, could barely
muster any support and was removed from office by a vote of 420 to 1, with 9
lawmakers voting present. It was only the second time since the Civil War and
fifth time in its 213-year history that the House chose to impose the
ultimate penalty for unethical conduct and strip a member of office.

In Poland the MPs are sacred cows. Nothing can move them.

It is also worth noting that the only opposing vote
was cast by Gary Condit, a controversial
      representative himself.

I am not a lawyer and I do not know precise
legal definitions of the two, but my understanding
is that corruption is a much broader term than
bribery. If you are in a position of power you can
use that power in a corrupt, i.e. not fair way,
not necessarily for monetary gain, but to advance
your partisan or other particular goals.
In other words a man of power can be corrupted
even if he never took any bribes.

For me the corruption is a general term for the aggregate of different types of
villany: bribary, good old school tie practices, extortion, influence based on
the office held, tinkering with the laws of the country and the bylaws to
appease certain groups for financial gains, jobs for the family and friends,
          etc.

That’s the problem in most of the developing countries, the political
establishment is beyond the reach of justice, and that has a great potential
for corruption, in fact this is the only factor that breeds corruption.
This old custom of immunity in Poland’s parliament going back to the dark ages,
and I am sure those in the trough would like preserve it at all cost. I believe
it need to be abolished ASAP. At this stage of the Polish nationhood it is
extremely important that only the best-in ethical scene, not necessary by their
education credentials-be elected into office. And those in office ought to be
held responsible 24 hours 7 days a week to their own constituency. This would
speed up the transition to the free market and alleviate suffering of many our
      countrymen and women.
To all of you out there, inside and outside of the beloved country of Poland to
put a pressure on our governments to bring that change about ASAP

May God bless Poland Forever and Ever

correct me if I'm wrong, but parliamentary immunity is nearly universal; hardly
some kind of Polish wierdness. it helps to protect MP's from frivolous lawsuits
from every Tom, Dick, and Harry who dislikes them or disagrees with their
policies, and allows the poor bastards to pursue their public duties without
the distraction of being acountable for whatever horrendous crimes they might
        have committed.

The problem lies with the number of people that decide to abuse this immunity.
Just like a certain person that beleived that Bin Laden's friends landed a
helicopter somewhere in Poland and stole some dangerous toxins.

Certain people should have their immunity revoked but they seem able, for the
most part, to hide behind this immunity and therefore they cannot be held
          accountable for their wrong-doings.

What a sad world we live in... Money talks

I like that statement:"God bless Poland Forever and Ever".

            Should be popularized.
