There is no place like home - but

IP: *.peaknet.net 27.09.02, 19:05
where is it?
"sometimes a man hits upon a place to which he mysteriously feels that he
belongs.... here is the home he sought, here at last he finds resr."
- W.Somerset Maugham, The Moon and Sixpence.

Did yoy find your home yet?
Or are you like me, a perpetual vagabond, and home is everywhere I am - out
there in the world? How do you tell somebody where are you from?

I am on my way. I feel home anywhere in the world.
I have few things that always travel with me and they make me feel at home in
any place in the world. Once you get globetrotter's mind it stays with you
      forever, would you agree?

Funny 'cause I was just thinking about starting a thread in this direction. How
do you feel as "a perpetual vagabond"? Pensive, looking back with sadnzss?
I left Poland long time ago and a different Poland. But I don't feel at home
anywhere really. By the way, when in England, you'll hear the famous
saying'"Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel" attributed to Samuel
Johnson while in France - to Voltaire. Any authoritative suggestion?
      • Gość: ipfreely Re: So where is home for you? IP: *.peaknet.net 27.09.02, 20:41
I don't know what to say when I am asked. Is home where I currently live?
Is home where I grew up? Or is home simply land and people you feel deeply
        connected to?
Went to Poland few times but I felt like a stranger in my own land!
I could never pick up right where I left off when I left Poland.
Times changed, people changed and I don't like what it all became.

How can people stay in one place their whole lives?
Do you get that sensation that you are missing out on other 'worlds going on'
when you happen to go some place.

        Hi everybody!

Do you remember Odyssey by Homer?
We are just another chapter in the book.

Who wants to stay home after so many adwentures?

        Patriotism:.
In my opinion free people can make decision: where and when to go.
In case of the emergency we will find our way home!!

        Sincerely,

        Aleks from New Jersey, USA

and others. I have trigger happy fingers, sorry for that.

I call home (for now) a small town near St.Louis, Missouri but I am on the
            Illinois side.

I am off today. Although I may change my mind.

          back on thread
I think you touched something, Aleks, when you said about patriotism. And I
didn't mean to introduce that terrible word, if it wasn't for that saying. I
think it was Dr Johnson ... But the fact that we are talking about it - here,
on this forum, as though united to talk about separation... I am not sure what
Iwant to say really. Do you sometimes get that feeling of... well... doubt?
New Jersey, eeh? Give my regards to Tony Soprano Keep trotting ipfreely, Aleks

I feel far from authoratative here, but wasn't that Oscar Wilde (in Britain, at
        least)?

          erwas,
the saying was definitely Dr Johnson's in Kubrick's "Paths of Glory" and I
never heard otherwise untill fairly recently; as for Oscar Wilde, I think he
would've come up with it, had it not been done before him. Thanks for light on
          GW Bush.

Dear, oh dear. Any "crap on the floor" appears to be more thought provoking
C'mon Stanleys! You do not have to talk about the poor kids you left behind
nor the intelectual/spiritual legacy of your great great grandad Skawinski...
Tell me why so often Stach complains about Schadenfreude Stanley? And vice
versa. What is it about this "home" that makes you adopt attitudes rather than
just be? Afraid? Know what I mean?
OK, ok, just trying to infuse a bit of blood here.
