  My present incarnation lives in France, true. But once upon a time, ab. 8 000
  years ago 'I' lived in what is called today California. And it was beautiful,

Never lived in California, but out of 36 states I visited
so far I like California the most. I love mountains,
so I might be biased, but it is really very pretty state.
And very big too, one of the largest (3rd after Alaska
and Texas). Weather is great, warm, very little
precipitation,
low humidity, so it is pleasant even in the summer
(unlike south Texas or Florida).
I would move there tomorrow if I could.
The biggest disadvantage is its popularity.
It is very expensive to live there, especially
in and around big cities (like SF, LA, SD), but smaller
ones can be extremely expensive as well.
LA has extremely poor air quality year around,
big traffic problems, usually long commuting time,
large crime rate and the most barbarric police department
in the country.

  Absolutely not. But then maybe I'm biased, I don't like
  LA too much. Although it's very large it looks and feels
  like one big boring suburb. How that place ever became
  home to film industry and film stars is something I'll
  never be able to figure out. The area around San
  Francisco is much nicer (no wonder Coppola and Lucas
  moved there). I'm now in San Diego which is also a nice
  place to visit.

California is a heaven on the earth I recommend you to go and live in San
Diego - sun, ocean(surfers!), mountains and great friendly people.

I am in total agreement with previous statement about San Diego and I will go
