A ta główna częsć spółki to parent company.

dzięki, tak wyskakuje też w słownikach, jednak nie jestem pewien, czy jest to
dokładne tłumaczenie. Zawsze mi się wydawało, że subsidiary to jest filia, a mi
zależy, żeby podkreślić to, że spółka - córka została wydzielona z danego
przedsiębiorstwa.

A famous example of a spin-off was Lucent Technologies. Lucent was a
technology company composed of what was formerly AT&T Technologies, which
included Western Electric and Bell Labs. It was spun-off from AT&T on September
30, 1996 - that means it became an independent company.

Quite often the term "sibling" is used (as in parent/sibling)

AT&T was also broken down into so called"Baby Bells".
One of them was "Bell South". Interestingly Bell South was reabsorbed into AT&T
few weeks ago.

Better yet in 2001 Lucent almost went under and there was no Ma Bell to help
out.

I know for a fact that if some radio station is affliated with some other, they would call (or at least the one that is the main one) the other :the sister station, or our sister station...nice way to say we bought you out shmucks!
