as an aside, in some parts of Hampshire 'alright my luvver' is often
used as a casual greeting.. :)

Some people use "duck" instead od "love".

Please tell me: is it ordinary that people who I know, for instance
my neighbours, used to "Love" in his message to me?? So, in Poland
this word is using for somebody who I really love, for whom I feel
            something specially. Thx

These are just terms of endearment. For eg 'Duck' and 'Ducky' have
been used to express affection since the 1500s and are used in the
same way as 'dear,' 'darling,' and 'pet,' in Britain. The usage
probably dervives from the English word 'duck'- a 'ducky' being
              another term for a duckling.

'Love' is another colloquial expresstion used as an endearment.. I
was waiting in the bank the other day and a customer addressed the
bank lady as 'love.' I would imagine she gets called by a lot of
different names during the course of the day... but this one made
              her smile!! :-)
