I'm looking for the explanation (to translate it properly) of the
word Aga - and this is not a name...
???? help!!!is this a kind of old fashioned heater?

I think AGA stands for American Gas Association based in Washington
D.C - they represent over 200 energy companies that deliver natural
gas throughout the U.S. There was also an AGA cooker invented in
      1922 by a Swede! :-)

        Hi,
Yes, it looks factual. There used to be a company called AGA AB - a
swedish company - that manufactured AGA cookers though the company
are now known as Lind or something similar. :-)

          Thank you guys :)
the problem is that my character (in a book) sits at the Aga...
so it must be a kind of heater-cooker...
like Frania in Poland in 70-s - but it was a washing mashine :)

It is cooker, indeed. You can call it "old fashion" one, however it
is installed in new houses as well. Quite expensive btw ;)

The AGA cooker was mentioned in The Times yesterday. Apparently one
broke down in someone's house and this made the news.

Once, I watched a program on BBC (I think) concering selling the properties.
Anyway I saw in this program a sort of old fashioned kitchen (cooker). The
presenter was calling this piece of kitchen equipment as ARGA. I definitely
heard a letter "R" in this word :)

Here is the link you can see hwo Arga looks like.

                www.homes.fotopic.net/p38439372.html
So, it is a combination of cooker and stove.
                • jonathan.oakley Re: Aga 24.10.08, 17:17
How interesting...I have found an ARGA shop that sells AGA cookers:

                  www.mylocalservices.co.uk/Oxfordshire/Agas_and_Cookers/679923/Arga_Shop.html

They are meant to be very reliable-the Volvos' of the cooker world-
but no so cheap...Broseley/Nordica Thermo Rosa cookers are also
                  popular and better priced..
