The next free English (ESL), GED, Spanish GED, and Citizenship classes begin
August 29, 2005.

ESL & Citizenship registration is August 22-25, 9:00-10:00 a.m., 1:00-2:00
p.m., and 5:30-6:30 p.m.
GED registration is on August 24 & 25, 9:00-10:00 a.m., 1:00-2:00 p.m., and
5:30-6:30 p.m.

For ESL and Spanish GED classes:
You need a ticket or a test to register. Get a ticket in Room 2424 starting
Wednesday, August 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and
from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday & Saturday.


Save time! Intermediate and Advanced ESL students should take the CELSA
placement test before registration day. First, stop in Room 2424 to get a
special form to take to the Assessment Center, Room L912, to take the CELSA
test. (This test is not for beginning students.) On August 24 or 25, bring
test results to the Cafeteria, 1st Floor, 9:00-10:00 a.m., 1:00-2:00 p.m., or
5:30-6:30 p.m. (August 24 is recommended since classes fill quickly.)

For GED in English:
Before registration day, you must go to the Assessment Center, Room L912, and
take a placement test, the TABE test. The Assessment Center will start giving
this test at the end of April. On August 24 or 25, bring test results to the
Cafeteria, 1st Floor, 9:00-10:00 a.m., 1:00-2:00 p.m., or 5:30-6:30 p.m.

For Citizenship:
No number or test is needed. Just go to the Cafeteria at the same dates and
times listed for ESL and GED above.

A social security number is not required for registration. All students must
bring proof of address and a black pen. You must prove that you live or work
in Chicago, or have child care in Chicago, in order to register (Illinois ID
or driver's license, gas or electric bill, apartment lease, etc.).

Please do not bring children. Registration will close when classes are full.

kiedys mieszkalam doslownie rzut kamieniem od Trumana. Teraz blizej mam do
Wrighta, ale tu zapisy o ile sie nie myle juz sie skonczyly. Jesli jednak znowu
sie zaczna jestem sklonna sie tam pofatygowac. Bo moj angielski a tym bardziej
amerykanski wedlug mnie pozostawia wiele do zyczenia;>

ps. Evek a mozety sie orientujesz odnosnie roznicy poziomow pomiedzy tymi dwoma
kursami?

nie ma roznicy. ESL to jest ESl. tylko zalezy od nauczycieli. kazdy ma swoj
pomysl na prowadzenie zajec. ja np. na poziomie 6-tym mialam sporo gramatyki,
ale tez i "gadania". a teraz na "7" mam okolo 20 nowych slowek tygodniowo i
sporo wyjsc w "miasto" i gadki glownie. a gramatyka znikomo - przy okazji. i to
dziala!
we Wright nie znam nauczycieli ani niestety nikogo, kto tam chodzil. w
trumanie sa fajni. i co najwazniejsza - nie ma wybacz. masz sie nauczyc. moj
ticzer rozumie, ze niektorzy pracuja i nie maja juz czasu na nic. ale uwaza, ze
jak ktos chce to sie nauczy. i nie ma zadnego usprawiedliwiana typu: nie mialem
czasu. nie miales teraz - bedziesz miec nastepny raz... tylko sie staraj. jak
sie starasz to oni to doceniaja.
ja polecam kursy ESLa!!!!

malo info maja, ale trzeba tam pojsc albo zadzwonic. ja polecalabym ci juz
teraz. koniec sierpnia to sa zapisy w trumanie. moze we Wright tez teraz
maja??! to jeszcze zdazysz. a ten semestr trwa do listopada. szkoda czekac jak
mozna sie juz wciagnac! :O) 3mam kciuki!

Registration Information for Free Adult Education Classes
English as a Second Language (ESL)

New Information about Pre-registration and Registration:
To get a class, you must pre-register and get a registration ticket by October
15. Come to Room 2424 in person for pre-registration and your ticket between
September 22 and October 15. Pre-registration hours are:
Monday though Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
You must bring proof that you live, work, or have childcare in Chicago. A
social security number is NOT required.
If you need a placement test, you may be able to take it when you pre-register
(see Testing Information below).
You will return to complete your enrollment on registration days, Wednesday or
Thursday, October 19 or 20.
Classes begin on Monday, October 24.
Testing Information:

powyzsze info oznacza, ze chetni musza sie pofatygowac do Trumana, do pokoju
2424 (1 pietro - po amerykansku 2-gie ;O). tam daja kilka kartek do wypelnienia
i skieruja na test CELSA. po tym tescie powiedza wam na jaki poziom sie
kwalifikujecie (chyba ze ktos chce od poczatku zaczynac to nie musi tesu
pisac ;O). a potem juz tylko trzeba bedzie przyjsc na rejestracje - wtedy
dostaniecie info do jakiej grupy i wybierzecie sobie dni i godziny! polecam
rejestracje w pierwszym dniu, bo wtedy jest jeszcze wybor!

bede w Trumanie w czwartek i gdyby ktos potrzebowal dodatkowych info, to moge
zajrzec do 2424 i popytac ;O)

a ogolnie to polecam!!!!

evek, to powiedz mi jeszcze, co taki kurs, oprócz lepszej znajomości języka i
własnej satysfakcji daje? Otrzymuje sie pewnie jakieś zaświadczonko o
ukończonym kursie i przydaje sie ono do czegoś..np? :)

przede wszystkim najwazniejsze jest ze ucza amerykanie i trzeba sie uczyc. wiec
jezyk! potem dostaje sie taki swistek sygnowany przez miejski college. potem
mozna np. zaczac kursy GED - to taki odpowiednik Collegu dla doroslych - daje
amerykanskie srednie wyksztalcenie.
np. zeby zaczac studia w collegu czy na uniwerku jako obcokrajowiec to tez
trzeba miec zaswiadczenie o ukonczeniu ESL. mozna to skonczyc na tychze
studiach, ale wtedy sa to platne godziny kredytowe.tak mi kolega mowil, ktory
tutaj konczyl studia z biologii i zaliczal wlasnie wtedy ESL.

zadna kolomyja. to proste. ten test ma im powiedziec do jakiej grupy cie
przydzielic! idziesz, bierzesz kartke iolowek, rozwiazujesz a potem czekasz na
wynik i tyle. to nie zadne zawody kto lepiej i szybciej!

GED na razie nie zawracaj sobie glowy! wkleilo mi sie razem przez przypadek.
ciebie na razie interesuje tylko to co jest ESL - English as a Second
Language! :O)
