Canada’s jobless rate remained at a 32-year low of 6.1 per cent in June, led
by continuing strength in Alberta, Statistics Canada reported.
British Columbia and Manitoba saw their unemployment rates hit record lows in
June. Although B.C.’s growth was slightly slower than last year’s first-half
numbers, the province’s jobless rate fell to 4.3 per cent. Manitoba’s jobless
rate fell to 3.6 per cent.
Alberta retained the nation’s lowest jobless rate at 3.5 per cent.
Ontario and Saskatchewan also posted higher-than-average growth in June.
Ontario’s job growth was led by health-care sector gains while Saskatchewan
was boosted by services and the hospitality industry.
