Kazdy chyba ma archiwum i kazdy je od czasu do czasu przeglada.
Moje archiwum idzie do przegladu kiedy sie przeprowadzamy. Poniewaz sie przez
ostatnie 10 lat nie przeprowadzalismy , wiec poszlo one do przegladu przy
okazji malego domowego remontu.I oto co znalazlem.
Jest to wycinek z Saskatoonskiego czasopisma " The Star Phoenix" z dnia 22
kwietnia 1994 . A oto co pisza w nim :
Hospital debt hangs over immigrants
TORONTO (CP) - Three months ago, Dominik Chalupka watched his mother die after
a stroke.
Now the 29-year-old Polish immigrant faces a lifetime of debt - a $98,006.04
hospital bill.
Pausing frequently to fmd the correct English words, Chalupka's wife, Jadwiga,
25, says simply, "We
can't pay that."
The couple live in a one-bed-room apartment in nearby Brampton. They thought
they'd acted responsibly by purchasing $25,000 in travellers' insurance
before Ana Chalupka's visit last fall.
The 71-year-old woman had no health problems before her six-month visit, they
said, but on the morning of Dec. 6, she collapsed after suffering a violent
headache.
The next day, she was transferred to Toronto Hospital, where it was discovered
she had suffered a
stroke and needed surgery.
The family told the hospital they had only limited insurance, but signed a
promissory note agreeing to
pay the balance of the medical costs.
Despite successful surgery, Ana suffered a relapse and was taken off life
support Jan. 11.
The next day the couple's fIrst child was born.
"What can you think if you have that kind of money to pay'?" Jadwiga said.
The hospital's position is clear - the family agreed to pay and they're
expected to do so.
