such a heavenly voice in this tiny, almost weightless body? Forget moonwalk, he
danced on clouds. After 'Bad' I really don't have any favourites* but I will

As to Micheal, when I was a boy, I adored him. "Thriller" and "Bad" - these were
the albums I could listen to all the time ;) But then I changed, and so did my
music priorities. I can say that I really know his three albums: "Off the wall",
"Thriller" and "Bad". The remaining three are yet to be discovered :)

"Black and white" is however as different from "Who is it" as black from white,
don't you think? ;)

I knew it the second post of yours that I read ;)
You're right, we moved on from him, but it is easy to explain. The time of
Thriller's release was undeniably the hightime of his career but since then he
changed little (besides his bizarreness started showing off-stage) while we
changed a lot.
We kept our ears open to new music, and he sort of faded away. But still - he is
a part of our childhood. We cherish him as much as we cherish our childhood
memories :)

I agree completely: even trying to evolve was no answer, he lost something on
the way. Only his most devoted fans would still love everything, the rest
felt they did not recognize his style anymore. Strange. Perhaps the only pop
artist constantly evolving and reinventing herself without losing her identity
is Madonna. At least fot me, she is the perfect opposite of him. Still, even
this cannot last forever...

Did he try to evolve? I don't think so. His performance was always brilliant but
he had a clearly defined style: angular and rather "jerky" choreogpahy and
fast-paced steps:

What did change was his superbly produced videos and his face getting with each
plastic surgery more androgynous.

Madonna is a horse of a different colour. She lacks a fraction of Michael's
talent, but she is an excellent businesswoman and stayed emotionally stable in
spite of her series of extramartial affairs and a bit profligate lifestyle ;)
Maybe it was because all these affairs were carefully staged to fuel her career?
If it weren't for them where would she be now?

I think he did, when it comes to music. Then again, I was never a fan of his, not even a close observer, so I would not bet on my own theory :) Choreography is another story, defying gravity will always be his trademark :)) I adore it.

She has always been in control. In fact, that is one word I associate with her: CONTROL. Her PR machine is a world in itself :D for many generations to learn from.

You are right about the staged privacy, but for me she is much more than a tabloid icon. And no, not in terms of musical talent. I simply think she's done more for modern woman than any self-appointed feminist warrior will ever do...

I am not so sure. His change was as if enforced. He created his best albums "Off
the wall", "Thriller" and "Bad" together with Quincy Jones.
I daresay they had a bit of Lennon-McCartney relationship in terms of
inspiration. When Michael was on his own, he was - to me - only a great
entertainer.
Madonna is her own spin doctor :) She feels the trends and knows what direction
to take. If she had a real voice, she would be one of the best ever.
