marcus_anglikiem Re: To Waldek & Kylie 13.02.07, 20:31 Great video! thanks. but the mere mention of tax makes me physically ill. though not quite as ill as those in Canada and Scandinavia it seems! (ps. did you know that the average Fleming - those living on one side of Belgium - subsidises the average Walloon - those living on the other side of Belgium - to the tune of €160 PER MONTH!) source: www.brusselsjournal.com/node/1775 quote:"...In 2006 the 6 million Flemings subsidized the 4 million Walloons at a rate of €11.5 billion (an enormous amount of money compared to the €14 bn which is the U.S.’s annual spending on foreign aid)..." kylie1 Re: To Waldek & Kylie 14.02.07, 01:02 Thanks for the info, marcus, but I know nothing about Belgium. My question, however is "what the heck is wrong with these "Walloons" (?). Are they a bunch of unemployables living off welfare and government subsidies? If that's the case, we can shake hands. We have our natives - a neat little special interest group that costs Canada millions each year. They have been forever pampered through our hard earned cash and taxes. None of them has ever worked a day in their life. Don't take me wrong, we have always supported the idea of helping those who can't help themselves but working has never been a priority for any of those glue and gas sniffing role models. I am not sure what happened to our common sense but we are fed up with looking after those bone-idle FIRST nations people with typical birth certificates where the last name is like the first name. They feel they are god sent upon Canada by the grace of the Almighty. Is that what the Walloons are all about too?? haaaa Odpowiedz Link
usenetposts Re: To Waldek 13.02.07, 20:48 I'm just glad I don't pay taxes in Canada. Here's my latest youtube effort - a collaboration with a good friend I made on the you tube community. It got 200 odd views in a matter of hours of posting. www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7aha_Sa_Ik Odpowiedz Link
kylie1 Re: To Waldek 13.02.07, 23:51 Our taxes are a bit steep but, then again, we are not the ones who whimper and whine about abortions while putting other kids at risk of dying because hospitals can't provide cancer pediatric care. No one likes to dig into their pocket but one has to remember that our health care is provided for out of those very taxes. There are many "hidden" taxes (like the health care tax that businesses contribute for their health care insurance). Standard stuff. Presently, the US has even higher taxes than us by about 8%, France 45%, Germany 42%). Considering Canada's size, a whole brunt of the taxes is poured straight into the road and highway maintenance. Our big priority. And, man, are we ever proud of it. Our roads are one of the best in the world. You have a choice of driving over a million potholes and buying new tires all the time, or you can drive in "luxury" over highways that are as smooth as a baby bum. Same with our networking and telecomminication infrastructure. You want to live in a good and healthy environment, it will cost you. Or you get what you pay for. Odpowiedz Link
minimus Re: To Waldek 14.02.07, 04:53 I wouldn't mind paying high taxes if I was getting something in return (as you are in Canada - btw, thats where I am now )). Odpowiedz Link
marcus_anglikiem Re:To Kylie and all the other folks on this thread 15.02.07, 23:47 > Or you get what you pay for. or in the uk THEY get what YOU pay for ... (politicians) for example, we pay £40bn a year in road taxes and guess how much is spent on roads? £6bn. Hmm, that's a LOT of champagne, power-yachts, Bentleys etc. etc... Odpowiedz Link
