Polish Plumbers

21.02.07, 10:16
Newspapers such as the Wyborcza, Rzeczpospolita, the Sun, etc have been full
of stories about how a hundred Polish plumbers answered one advert in London
within an hour, and how you now have to wait 2 - 3 weeks for one in Bielsko-
Biała because they've all emigrated.
I needed a plumber in Katowice recently, so I contacted the Housing
Association and they said they'd get one to phone me within the next day or
two. Half an hour later, he phoned and asked when they should come. It was
Wednesday evening, so I said, whenever you can manage, but if possible before
the weekend. 'Nine tomorrow morning suit you?' 'Great.'
So at 8.30 the next day 4 plumbers appeared at my door.
When I told them I'd expected to have trouble getting someone at such short
notice, they thought this was quite funny.
But after chatting with three of them while the youngest one (the one without
a moustache) did all the work, they're now all planning to move to Ireland.

Ianek - why did those plumbers want to emigrate immediately after working for
      you?
Do you usually have this effect on people?

you should ask them who to call if you need a plumber once they're gone wink
maybe they have a friend who can't move for some reason... contract with the
      parole board or something
