IP: *.dyn.optonline.net 19.02.03, 17:42
Jak stwierdza dzisiejszy Wall Street Journal
Volkswagen ma problemy z konkurencja i pomimo
kilku rekordowych lat sprzedazy samochodow
na swiecie firma notuje spadek sprzedazy a
jeszcze wiekszy spadek zyskow.

Problemy tej firmy w USA obrazuja spadek znaczenia
Niemiec w tej i innych dziedzinach gospodarki. Firma
VW od 20 lat traci rynki w USA i pomimo ze wporwadzila
sporo lepszych i wiekszych samochodow na rynek
amerykanski to w tej chwili posiada tylko okolo 1/10
rynku ktory firma posiadala 20 lat temu.

"In a preliminary earnings report, Europe's largest car maker said 2002 net
profit tumbled 11%, to €2.58 billion ($2.76 billion) from €2.92 billion, as
price competition and an aging model lineup weighed on the company's margins.

Sales fell 1.8% to €86.9 billion from €88.5 billion. The company delivered
4.98 million vehicles to customers in 2002, down from 5.1 million in 2001.

VW declined to comment on the results. It will provide a full earnings report
and an outlook for 2003 on March 11.

Shares in Volkswagen slipped 34 cents, or 1%, to 36.18 in afternoon trading
on the German stock market.

Analysts said VW faces several tough challenges. Overall, auto sales are
expected to fall this year in Europe and particularly in Germany, its largest
market. In the U.S., VW sales are slumping amid the incentive war driven by
American car makers. With the dollar falling against the euro, exchange rates
added another disadvantage for the world's fourth-largest car maker."
