Very nicely written but not entirely accurate, as often in Guardian.
Sergeant Mejia is going to jail. He had a chance to become a conscientious
objector when his unit was called. He had a second chance to do it upon arrival
to his base in Florida for a two weeks leave. Instead he went into hiding and
surfaced five months later claiming a conscientious objector status. Too late.
In a military court he stands no chance to get off the hook.
The attorneys and experts he has on his team will do him harm.
Mejia became a pawn in an antiwar movement game. He will pay the bill in full.
What a fool.

Don't get me wrong chickenshorts. I kind of understand the guy. He had enough.
Got scared adn decided to save his own ass. Now he'll do the time which is
insignificant to the other consequences he faces. Upon dishonorable discharge
he'll lose all the benefits. No pension. No free medical. He just kissed good
bye all he's erned for the past 9 years as a soldier. What a fool.

That maybe so but let me distance myself from this particular case of a cleric,
the divinely inspired creep, misogynist and racist, who called from his
islamic altar:"'You don't have to travel thousands of miles to become a shaheed
(martyr); you can become a shaheed right on your own doorstep.'
As far as I know, the majority of the British Muslims don't much care for him...
