I just came across an article which I remember I found quite amusing when I read it about two years ago, but now... when I'm a bit older and I'm getting closer to the age boundary it's not so amusing any longer:((
Anyway, here's some excerpts. What do you think about it?
"The words we use to sort the cool from the uncool have always been the biggest betrayers of age and insecurity. Groovy gave way to hip, hip to fab, fab to ace, ace to bad, bad to phat and now everything that excites teenage approval is sick"
(well the article dates 7 Aug, 2002,... so I don't know what's in now)
"It is generally accepted that use of slang words from your teens is wrong after the age of 30, and that use of slang words from the teens of younger genereations is wrong all the time, the reserve of paedophiles and local radio DJs."
"I have noticed a few friends in the age band above me quietly ditching their generation's buzz words for more neutral terms (...)(they) cut back on swearing as a form of approval and succumbed to the death-suck of standard English in a move that screams "I'M IN MY 30s"
Well, I'm not in my 30s yet, but, sadly, I've noticed the same things among my friends :((( Yeah, I'm getting older...
