Woman: My name is Julie Walters. The address is: 135 Park Street, SE22 9DX, London.
Policeman: Thank you, Right. So when do you think it happened.
Woman: I am not sure. I last saw my purse when I was paying for the bus around an hour ago in
Dulwich, where I live. I took a bus into town and when I got off and wanted to buy some coffee, I could
not find it.
Policeman: So you definitely had it when you got on the bus?
Woman: Yes, I remember paying the fare and putting the purse back in my bag.
Policeman: So, it may have been stolen on the bus on your way here... Do you remember anything
suspicious happening during your journey?
Woman: Not really,...
Policeman: Was the bus crowded?
Woman: Yes, it was quite crowded...
Policeman: Well, I think there may have been pickpockets on the bus. You see, pickpockets often take
the advantage of a crowded bus or train.
Woman: I just did not pay attention to anyone else. I was reading my book.
Policeman: They may have taken advantage of that. Did you have any documents, cards or cash in your
purse?
Woman: Yes, I had around ?30 in cash, 3 credit cards... Yes... that's it. I keep my documents separately.
Policeman: I suggest that you call your bank and cancel your cards as soon as possible.
Woman: Yes, I know, I just wanted to report it first.
Policeman: That's fine. We will issue you with the crime reference number, in case your bank needs it.
Woman: There is not much chance of recovering it, is there?
Policeman: To be honest with you, no. But I will take the details of what your purse looked like, and if
the cards will turn up somewhere, if the thief wants to try to use them, of course we will let you know.
I'd say that most of the time they will dispose of the purse and cards and take the cash. So, what was
your purse like?
Woman: Well, it was rather ordinary. Brown leather, separate compartments for change and notes. Hold
on... It did have a little metal logo on it... Kookai.
Policeman: How do you spell that?
Woman: K-O-O-K-A-I
Policeman: OK, I have what I need. Let me just get your crime reference number... It's 43526.

I agree with a sdf! I can't picture someone going to a police station with
that. At least here they would think she lost a few marbles on the way there.
Sounds like these guys just sit around eating donuts all day and picking their
noses. Sounds like a pretty busy detachment.

Well, it was a good fun to do it.

I actually had my purse nicked few weeks ago in similar circumstances.

The reason why you need to report it is that your bank sometimes requires the
crime reference number so they have it for their paperwork. Epecially if you
reported your cards stolen rather than lost.

So you are standing there like a tit whilst the bored copper is taking the
details of what your purse looked like. As if it mattered! What is he supposed
to say: "Yes, m'am we will put all our men on this case. We'll go through all
the pickpocketing dens in London with a fine toothcomb to find your purse and
your 30 quid..." ???? ;-)))))))))))))))))
