jan.kulczyk Re: absence makes... 04.06.05, 01:20 You know, I've always wondered what this phrase actually means. Come to think of it, the literal interpretation would be the longer you're away, the more you're missed, so the longer you're not here, the better the people think of you, but the moment you actually show your face at their doorstep... well... and the rest is silence... <lol> Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś
ms.jones Re: absence makes... 04.06.05, 02:58 a friend who does bereavement counselling says that good 80% or more of newly bereaved 'grieving widows' are not destraught because of their recent loss - they don't hesitate to say 'he was a bast**d' but rather they mourn all other losses they suffered in life. So a reality check when you turn up on the doorstep ain't a bad thing. Besides, who's to say you won't live up to expectations? axxie sounds smitten, she's gone all girly on you :) Another thing about folk wisdom is that there usually is a saying meaning something quite different if not totally opposite eg: 'you only live once' vs 'better safe than sorry' or here 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' vs 'out of sight, out of mind'.
