The Chirac's words (claiming that English cooking is the second worst - after
finish one) shook the whole England. As I am forced to eat in the English way,
I must admit that he's right - to some degree. Obviously, in many respects
there's a scent of the rurality in their food. Pies, puddings, whatever, have
often the sheppard origin, no doubt about it. All the rest has been killed by
the supermarkets, like Sainsbury's, ASDA or TESCO, which sell products
carefully hiding their origin. Perhaps Chirac used to do his shopping right
there - many small shops offer much better food for quite reasonable prices.
In spite of the fatal reputation of the English cuisine, there are many
edible dishes and foreigners should not be afraid of going there. Nor to
Finland - I lived there for a pretty long time and I was satisfied with food
which they prepared, especially karjalan pirakkat.
