Do you rememeber the difference in meaning? e.g. the object is made from wood
vs the object is made of wood.

Where is the difference? It means the same.

Not exactly. I know there is a difference - I once had it on grammar classes
but I cant remember that's why I ask.

made of when there is only, or mainly one material
made from when there are different ones

Maybe on grammar classes, but out in the real life it do mean the same.

          not necessarily
what would you rather say: made of wood or made from wood?

imagine the following: a piece of wood/stone/metal,etc.
If you make something FROM it, you shape it, you extract FROM it, to make it
            INTO something, got it?

Now imagine you've got the wood, some chains, some leather, some metal and you
want to make a swing FROM these things. You start constructing and the finished
product will be a swing/seat/bench made OF wood/metal/leather/ whatever else
            you put INTO it.
            -------------
a difference in approach- that's all it is.

do you think that's what the author had in mind? I honestly doubt that

I would explain it like this:

paper is made from wood => wood has been transformed and it no longer exists or
                is visible

a chair is of wood => wood has been shaped, carved, etc. but the object is
                still essentially the same material

                  I thing paper_mate nailed it!
And who else, but paper_mate would know the paper making process?

                    think...
