Witam,

Czy może mi ktoś powiedzieć, czy jest jakaś istotna różnica między
stwierdzeniem I like swimming a I like to swim?

"I like swimming" is a general form of saying that the speaker likes the type
of activity, the act, or art of somebody or something that swims or dives; and
the word 'swimming' functions as a noun.
"I like to swim", on the other hand, is said when the speaker makes more
immediate choice between two options, for example, that between "Would you
like to take a walk or swim?" and "I'd like to swim!" And "swim" in this
latter option functions as a noun also, but one that describes a period of
particular activity, here the 'swim'.

I read olo's post quickly and carelessly, but something was strange there for
me, too. I was too lazy to realize what.

Essentially I agree with olo. However, in most of the situations you'll be on
the safe side when using either one.

If the bare "swim" is a noun, what is "to" for?

I like apples.
I like to apples?

When you say "I like swimming" you say Lubie plywanie, when you say I like to
swim, -Lubie plywac.

Przeważnie bez znaczenia którego użyjesz. W AmEng wymienne, w BrEng
częściej ...-ing niż to... .
Czasami jest różnica (w BrEng):
I like going to concerts = I enjoy myself there, have fun
I like to go to the dentists once a year = I think it's good for my teeth (but
I don't have any fun there ;-))
