Informal or rude?

29.07.09, 15:10
"It is absolutely pissing down!" - I mean "it is raining badly". ;)
Would it be rude to use this expression or is it informal, but not
rude? I know more polite "it is pouring down" too, but I like the
first one better. ;)

By the way - it is pissing down now. Hello from North Yorkshire. ;P

For many/most people it is quite normal and not rude. However, it is
objectionable to those people who completely dislike swearing. Use it unless you
want to absolutely avoid the possibility of upsetting anyone. If you get a bad
reaction, use the 'foreigner' approach: "I'm sorry, so many people say it that I
thought it was normal". They won't notice the sarcasm.

Other, cliched alternatives to 'raining heavily' or 'pouring down' are "Its
raining cats and dogs", "Its great weather for ducks", and "Its like a monsoon
out there", which might go down better with 'polite' people.

The sun is shining here, near Warsaw with a current shade temperature of 24 and
forecast of 29. Enjoy your rain, we'll get it next week.

          Thank you!

People's reaction is rather positive - they are suprised that I know
          such expression. ;)

I try to enjoy rain living in North Yorks (got my funky
wellies! ;) ). Although I am going to get some sun next month on
          Costa del Sol. :)
