It is hard to imagine an anti-Semite going to a Jewish doctor with a broken
foot, and holding out his foot, telling him, "Here, fix this, you Jew bastard."
And yet this is what is happening today, but with a different twist. It is now,
although virtually unreported by the world's press, a case of, "Don't fix this,
you Jew bastard. Just send money."

After the horror of the tsunami, Israel immediately leapt into a rescue mode.
While most nations were dithering about and making promises, or promises to
make promises, Israel sent 82 tons of medical and humanitarian aid to Sri
Lanka, as well as a planeload of blood products and an additional 40 tons of
supplies from private donors. On December 27 a medical team specializing in
rescue work, trauma, and pediatrics was dispatched carrying medicine and baby
food. A rescue-and-recovery team with specialized equipment for identifying
bodies was sent, and a Health Ministry group of doctors, nurses, and members of
IDF arrived in Thailand. Unfortunately, the American media, which ironically
the Muslim and Arab press say is controlled by Jews, reported little of these
extraordinary undertakings. The world media, along with a substantial portion
of the American media, have a vested interest in continuing to cast Israel as a
          Palestinian murdering villain.

In addition to the help it has already sent, Israel offered to send 150
experienced military medics and support personnel to set up field hospitals. It
was then that a light went off in the collective heads of at least three of the
recipient nations, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and India. These countries with
substantial Muslim populations apparently realized that in their condition,
they would not be able to bite the hand that fed them, and, therefore, either
turned down or did not respond to offers of Israeli aid. They much prefer to
have Uncle Sugar pay the bills. And believe it or not, when President Bush
suggested an amount that they did not feel to be sufficient, they had their
          public relations machines

Egyptian paper: Israel-India nuke test caused tsunami
          By JOSEPH NASR

The earthquake that struck the Indian Ocean on December 26, triggering a series
of huge waves called tsunami, "was possibly" caused by an Indian nuclear
experiment in which "Israeli and American nuclear experts participated," an
          Egyptian weekly magazine reported Thursday.

According to Al-Osboa', India, in its heated nuclear race with Pakistan, has
lately received sophisticated nuclear know-how from the United States and
Israel, both of which "showed readiness to cooperate with India in experiments
          to exterminate humankind."

Since 1992, the magazine argued, leading geological centers in Britain, Turkey
and other countries, warned of the need "not to hold nuclear experiments in the
region of the Indian Ocean known as 'the Fire Belt,' in which the epicenter of
          the earthquake lies.

Geologists labeled that region 'The Fire Belt' for being "a dangerous terrain
that can move at anytime, without human intervention," Al-Osboa' wrote.

Despite warnings not to carry out nuclear experiments in and around the 'Fire
Belt', "Israel and India continue to conduct nuclear tests in the Indian Ocean,
and the United States has recently decided to carry out similar tests in the
Australian deserts, which is included in the 'Fire Belt', the Egyptian weekly
          magazine wrote.

"Last year only, Arab and Islamic states have asked the United States to stop
its nuclear activities in that region, and to urge Israel and India to follow
          suite," Al-Osboa' reported.

Although Al-Osboa' does not rule out the possibility that the tsunami could
have been caused by a natural earthquake it speculates however that, "while it
has not been proved yet, there has been a joint Israeli-Indian secret nuclear
experiment [conducted on December 26] that caused the earthquake."

The Egyptian weekly magazine concludes in its report that "the exchange of
nuclear experts between Israel and India, and US pressure on Pakistan which is
exerted by supplying India with state-of-the-art nuclear technology and
preventing Islamabad from cooperating with Asian and Islamic states in the
nuclear field, pose a big question mark on the causes behind the violent Asian
          earthquake."

Incitement against Israel and Jews in Egyptian media is usually limited to the
context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict yet exceptions are known to occur.

In August 2002, the Paris Supreme Court summoned Ibrahim Naafi', editor of the
Egyptian daily Al-Ahram, for having authorized the publication of a
controversial article entitled 'Jewish matza is made from Arab blood' in the
October 28, 2000 edition of the paper.

          Tsunami and Tsusamin
          For the week ending 8 January 2005 / 27 Tevet 5765
          by Rabbi Mendel Weinbach
While the entire world grieves over the disaster caused by the tsunami in South
Asia there are some aspects of this tragedy which deserve more attention than
just counting how many are dead or missing.

First and foremost there is the humbling realization of the paradoxical
fragility of man who is capable of reaching the moon but cannot protect himself
against an earthquake and tidal wave.

One of the blessings an observant Jew makes each morning is to praise the
Creator “Who spreads out the earth upon the waters.” Because we take for
granted the security which G-d has provided us against the threat of the raging
seas, it is necessary for a Jew to remind himself upon awakening that such
security is a gift of G-d. It should not be necessary for a tsunami to serve as
          such a reminder.

As regards the Jews who were in the disaster area, the reaction of the
government, the media and the general public in Israel to their plight served
as a reminder of the tsusamin (Yiddish for “together”) nature of the Jewish
People. The volunteers who quickly flew to help locate missing Israelis and to
bring back the bodies of those who did not survive in order to provide them
with a Jewish burial were only a part of the picture. Throughout Israel people
had their ears glued to their radios, hoping and praying for news of another
Jew removed from the list of the missing.

It was a reminder of a point made almost a century ago by the great Rabbi Meir
Shapiro, the rav of Lublin and founder of both Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin and the
Daf Hayomi program. The anti-Semitic Russians in the last years of the Czarist
regime accused a Jew by the name of Mendel Beilis of murdering a gentile child
in order to use his blood for ritual purposes. In its attempt to base this
blood libel on an allegedJewish disregard for non-Jews as humans deserving of
life, the prosecution cited a section of the Talmud which states that 'You
(Jews) are called Adam (Man) but the other nations are not called Adam.” The
response of Rabbi Shapiro which was read to judge and jury by the defense
attorney, shed an entirely different light on this statement.

In lashon hakodesh - the Hebrew language - everything has a singular and plural
form. The exception is the word Adam. When all people feel a togetherness as if
they were a single man, they deserve to be called by the singular-plural term
          Adam.

If a non-Jew were on trial for murder rather than Mendel Beilis, went on Rabbi
Shapiro's brief, who would be concerned with his fate? At the most his
defenders would be his family and a few close friends. But when a Jew like
Beilis is on trial every Jew, everywhere, is deeply concerned. Jews of all
economic classes have contributed funds to hire top defense lawyers and every
effort has been made to see that justice is done. It is this sense of
responsibility, of oneness, which makes Jews unique as Adam and in no way
reflects on their attitude towards the sanctity of life of all mankind.

In this very spirit of regard for all mankind - a broadening of the tsusamin
persective - we take note of the fact that the amount of food and medical
supplies sent to Southeast Asia by the Israeli government was far larger than
what was sent by larger and richer nations in Europe.

Tsusamin - solidarity and brotherhood - should not need a tsunami to awaken it
in the hearts of all Jews and all mankind.
