Only two things are true

05.09.06, 15:18
OK, in order to get the ball rolling again after a long summer recess, let's
play a game.

In this thread, you have to say 3 things about yourself, a), b) and c), only
one of them must be a deliberate lie. The next person coming in the thread
tries to guess which is the lie, and then gives his/her three things, of
which only 2 are true, and then the first person says whether they were right
or not. The idea is to see if you can trick people into guessing the wrong
one as the lie.

Yeah, OK, it's been about a bit this game, but I don't remember us ever doing
it here before...

My 3:

a)I nearly drowned when I was a 10 year old child

b)I was chucked out of Russia aged 23 on complaints of espionage

c)I have never been the author of a published book.

I say this is false. I wouldn't be surprised if KGB got you mistaken up for a
spy.... or was it really a mistake?

      My turn:
      a) I dance argentinian tango
      b) As an 11-year old, I was detained by polish "milicja" for yelling Solidarity
      in a Gdynia port
      c) I'm fluent in three languages

      • bluteau Re: Only two things are true 05.09.06, 21:43
You don't dance Argentinian Tango is my bet.

        a) I've drunk 1/2 litre of vodka to myself in a 2-hour period
        b) My middle name is Veronica
        c) I've met Donald Sutherland
        • ja_karola Re: Only two things are true 10.09.06, 23:20

Wrong, I dance tango quite well actually. B is wrong, it was my brother who got
arrested for screaming solidarity at the top of his lungs... One of the many
          reasons we left PL altogether.
          • usenetposts Re: Only two things are true 11.09.06, 09:45
It's OK, you can scream "solidarity" now. It's safe to come home.

            For the time being.

Sorry for butting in but my guess is Dave's #2 is a lie...I saw Dave shaking
hands with Gorbachev in one of his pictures. I don't think that would have ever
happened if he were ever under the slightest suspicion of espionage.

        Bluteau...that's a toughy but I would say #2 is a lie.(Donald Sutherland is
Canadian so maybe it's quite possible you met him somewhere).

        my 3 options:

        I am an excellent swimmer.
        I play Poker.
        I like metaphysical literature.

Dave, by the way, great to have you back! I hope you will tell us about your
        trip to England.
Eugene, I will write tomorrow. I am just catching up with all my electronic mail! smile

Kylle, I dont think you like metaphysical literature. You are to earth-bound.

          My ones are:
          1. I like ducks.
          2. I don't like duck's.
          2. I'm good at shooting ducks.

Wrong, Michael! My little home library consists of nothing but metaphysical stuff.

Hmm, but you have only options number 1 and 2. So I guess that 2 is a lie.

            Me:

            a) I played in a rock band;
            b) I was a professional footballer;
            c) I've met ball lightning.

          • mobubu Re: Only two things are true 05.10.06, 03:28
1 and 2 are contradictory so they can't be both true or false at the same time.
If 1 is true then 3 can't be true so 1 must be false.

You were right. B was my lie, but only because it was age 22, not 23!

As to the later handshake with Gorbachev, this is quite possible, as the
Russians understand very well that in that period a lot of propaganda was made.
It should be clear from the file, anyway, that I was no spy, but they could pin
enough religious activity on me to make me fair game to be accused f being one,
for the sake of propaganda. Hence "complaints" of espionage. There never was
any proof, nor could there have been, as I never was a spy.

England was short and sweet, will probably post a gallery of snaps up somewhere.

After that was in Siberia, and that was not so short and not so sweet, but
still interesting. I'll do a gallery of snaps for that one too, or maybe a
          flash film on YouTube.

Incidentally, what public galleries are best for sharing photos on the net?

I might ask that question in a new thread.

Aaahhh, that was a little sneaky, Dave.

I guess anything is possible in Russia, isn't it?
I answered your other question about the photo upload website in a separate thread.

You are right! I don't play ANY card games.

As for Michael H., I don't think he has ever shot a duck before (perhaps stepped
on one smile)) but he likes ducks...on his plate, that is. One of my
sister's-in-law is Dutch and for Xmas they have ducks and geese to eat. A little
                fatty but yum!

                am I right, Mike?

The problem is that if being good at shooting ducks is Michael's lie, then you
are left with two mutually exclusive statements being true.
                  • kylie1 Re: Only two things are true 10.09.06, 19:45
                    That's true, Dave. Duuuh....

                    Perhaps what he meant was:

I like ducks...as animals/and perhaps for dinner as well.
I don't like ducks....as in Anaheim Mighty Ducks?

      My 3:

      a) I've been interviewed by Danish TV
      b) When I was a teenager our band was actually offered a gig
      c) I've got an animal tattooed on my arse

It was b), actually, as I was only 22 at the time.

I'll say b) as in my view it's probably easier to be interviewed by Danish TV
than to be offered a gig.

Actually, it wasn't that easy. I had to drunkenly harass them into letting me
do the introduction to a programme.
And we did indeed get offered a gig, but for various reasons didn't get round
          to playing it.
So it's c. I have got a tattoo of an animal, but it's not on my bahookey.

I'd say iii. is false - just because I have no idea who that guy is! lol

                no, ii. was false.

hmm, Spike Lee i can well imagine holidaying in Egypt,
                Walesa isn't far away,
whale hunting? well that's just statistically unlikely... 3.
