        No, I meant makówki.
Hace you ever been to Poland?
        • waldek1610 come on, I grew up eating makowce :) 21.12.06, 12:55
Makowki- poppy heads with seeds growing in the field,
Makowce- cakes made with poppy seeds,

If you want a recipe, I'm sure you meant a recipe for makowiec, not
          makowki... smile

            A dyć jo recht mioł...

Whatever, but I wouldn't trust smackheads in my kitchen. They'd steal the
                spoons.
Why can't you just admit that you don't know what makówki is?

why cannot you admit that you'll accept a makowiec recipe, maybe than you'll
get more answers with the recipe itself rather than linguistic comments!
I'd be happy to help (as waldek would, im sure) so you could finally get on
                  with doing whatever_the_name_is_this_gorgeous_cake!
                  • waldek1610 all right then, anyone has a recipe for makowiec? 22.12.06, 12:43

Ale right then, any body has a recipe for makowiec?

                    In Silesian dialect (makowki) smile

Basically because there are plenty of recipes available for makowiec and you
can buy it in shops anyway.
                    www.annamariavolpi.com/makowiec.html
And there would be fewer linguistic comments if Waldo possessed basic literacy
skills in either English or Polish, because then he would realise that makówki
and makowiec are not the same thing (which is why they have different names)
and he would then stop talking out his arse about his idyllic childhood in the
2nd Republic, where cakes grew in fields.

ask 10 Poles, what they call the poppy seed cake in Polish and 10 of them will
                      tell you it's makowiec.

or mention that only silesians wink would understand it?smile
Bonne apetit anyway! I'll stick with a non-silesian makowiec!

Having read this thread to the end and still not really understanding whether
this stuff is the same as the poppy cake we get in Warsaw, I have to say I'
reminded of the childre's poem "Kaczka Dziwaczka". Can anybody work out why?
      • kylie1 Re: Makówki 23.12.06, 05:15
We can buy "makowiec" cake in our Polish stores right here in Vancouver. It's
goooood! I think "makowki" is a smaller version of the poppy seed cake. That's
at least what I'm getting from the online recipies. In either case, you'd better
have a lot of dental floss on hand. Same with the Chinese Black Bean Sauce. It
gets between your teeth so much it's a real chore to get it all out. But it's
        worth it. I love both!

hey, waldo's back! greets smile) (incidentally, who would ever insure THAT car? smile

I, too, have just learned that makowka's a kind of makowiec popular in Silesia.
But instead of trying to make ianek (along with a couple o'million of other
Silesians) conform, I say: "man, I never knew, good to know, thanks".

Still, aucune idee comment a fair ca... smile

I found this on Polish Wikipedia: pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mak%C3%B3wki
        this on gazeta.pl: serwisy.gazeta.pl/Boze-Narodzenie/1,70525,1831669.html
        and this on gotowanie.x3m.pl: gotowanie.x3m.pl/index.php?przepis=5407

Makówki is indeed from Sląsk and is different from makowiec.
