We say 'wait for a moment'. Do you say 'wait a moment'? Can we skip 'for' in
this & similar cases? Thank you.

Ok, but is it possible to say for example "He waited ages for her"?

          Yes, of course.

But you can't say "Wait 5 minutes" or "He waited 5 years for her". You always
need to put "for" here, right?

              "Wait a moment"
              "Wait a minute"
              "Wait a sec."
              "Wait 5 minutes"
"He waited 5 yrs. for her"

All of the above are ok. Why not?

I've been taught to say "FOR 5 years" or "FOR 2 months". You haven't?

                  No.

Skip the "for". It doesn't sound good!
