Na moje ostatnie pytanie o stałym zameldowaniu w wielu odp (za ktore
strasznie dziekuje) przewijał sie wątek ID. Tak się zastanawiam czemu na
polskich dowodach os. mamy tłumaczenie identity card. Czym ono sie różni od
identity document??
Czy jak piszemy Pan kowalski legitymujacy sie dowodem... to uzyjemy Id czy
identity card?

ID suży dla potwierdzenia tożsamości i musi mieć zdjęcie. Często można w
Ameryce spotkać się z wymogiem przedstawienia "2 picture IDs". Takimi są
właśnie prawo jazdy (dla clów identyfikacji istnieje nawet "prawo jazdy" bez
prawa do prowadzenia pojazdu, a tylko dla identyfikacji), paszport, legitymacja
studencka czy pracownicza, ale zawsze z fotografią choć nie zawsze z adresem.
Tak więc, ID to jest jakikolwiek z takich dokumentów służący dodatkowo jako ID,
a nie jakiś określony dokument służący wyłącznie ku temu tak jak dowód
osobisty.
Tak jest w Ameryce. Jak jest w Anglii czy Australii lub Kanadzie - nie wiem.

In fact, the issue of proving one's identity is somewhat complicated in
England. There is no official ID card as such and not everyone possesses a
driving licence; those who do, are not expected to carry it with them at all
times, providing they can present it within seven days when required. There is
also a surprisingly large part of population who have never acquired a passport.

Every now and again the issue is debated by the parliament but any suggestions
involving a proper ID card, which would faciliate illegal immigration control
and fight against terrorism threat, are met with powerful protests from civil
liberties organisations which oppose the idea on the grounds of citizens'
right to privacy.
What it means in practice? Should you wish to open a bank account, for example,
you are likely to be asked for a proof of identity/residence (two recent
utilities bills addressed to you), plus a birth certificate, a letter from your
GP, MP, solicitor etc confirming your identity.

All in all, it's not very easy to prove who you are.

I have heard people saying it's sometimes enough to show a letter to you or any
membership card, too ;)
