--------------------

perhaps you mean "whatchamacallit"

used when you are speaking about something or someone whose name you can't
remember:
I need a - a whatchamacallit - one of those things that you can caramelize
sugar with.

whatcha # watch out
watcha could probably be watch out
most of the slang expressions taken out of the context mean shit (nothing)
whatcha could be taken from "whatcha doing" = "what are you doing"

whatchamicallits ???? where the heck did someone get it from ?
I've been living in english speaking country for over 15 years and
never seen anything like this

o'k.
you can loosely translate it to "what do you call it"
you use it when you don't know the minning of something or you don't know
what it is.

But you can tell your native not to be a smart ass and to teach you ENGLISH
not SCOTISH slang.
I don't think you'll ever hear something like this unless you talk to someone
who's from Scotland and plays "smart" with you

well, i won't tell him.
i don't mind if it's scotish saying or not. it's worth to know that word even
if i don't use it.
he told us about it as a curiosity, it wasn't the main part of his lesson, it
wasn't essential vocabulary

po prostu nie lubie jak jakis cwaniaczek(a) proboje sie "pokazac".
Jest masa innych "slangs" ktore rowniez sa ciekawe i sa uzywane.

not say “whatchamicallits” but proper “thingumyjiggys”. So be nice lad and
bugger off ;)))))

Fuck You. If you don't uderstand something, at least don't try to put words in
my mouth. I don't see anything offensive statement in what I've said.
Scots like to make up looooong words and that's the only reason that Scotland
was mentioned.
And in case You haven't noticed, is for english only.
So, take you f... scotish out of here and shove it (you know where)
Sometimes you need brains to get the posting. But yours are either up in your
ass or you don't have'em at all.
Regards.

And I didn’t see anything offensive in your previous post. I was just keeping
you right, that “thingumyjiggys” is not the Scottish word, that’s it. THAT’S
WHY I PUT SMILES THERE, FOR EVERYONE TO SEE IT WAS A JOKE IN GOOD NATURE.
But this post I find more then offensive, so please just stay way away from me
cause I hate pathetic losers who or can not take a joke or use swearwords as
the last line of defense and stretch muscles like the little boys, who try
to pretend to be adults.
And in case You haven't noticed, this site supposed to be for English
only, but there is quite a bit American and slang as well.

and i did

I think it would be much easier if you had shown it in a context,
otherwise...who knows, it might be "wacht you" or "I am watching you"
• squatt-leavitt Re: whatcha-what does it mean? 10.05.03, 20:56
whatcha = what are you +...ing (usually used in slang when asking 'what are
you doing?)
You can also ask "whatcha' name?" = what is your name? or whatcha' opinion?
etc.
