Gość: Steve Re: burn one’s ships IP: *.kajetany.net 12.04.09, 22:16 burn your boats or burn your bridges: remove any possibility of returning or retreating, usually in terms of committing yourself to a point of view so strongly that you cannot get out of it without admitting that you are wrong, or even having to apologise for your mistake. It is normally used when the commentator (which could be yourself) is not completely sure that what you say is right even if the argument makes sense. I should point out that you will note in this answer that the English do not normally say 'one', but replace it by 'you'. I taught myself to say 'one' because it is more logical, but I found that I was the only person who did so and am now trying to go back to more normal English. Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś
