Canada's economy stood still in October as it did in September, says StatsCan

      a dlaczego?

That means more Canadian jobs will be on the line if the dollar continues to climb.

The strain of the high dollar was evident in the November jobless figures, where
the unemployment rate rose to 7.3%, up from 7.1%. The hardest-hit sectors were
manufacturing (losing 17,800 jobs) and tourism (down 12,800 jobs). Since July
52,000 manufacturing jobs have disappeared. A survey by the Canadian Auto
Workers estimates that if the loonie stayed at 85 cents US, the manufacturing
sector would lose 400,000 jobs by 2007. The film industry has also taken a big
hit, with production across Canada estimated to be down by at least 20%.
"Employment, especially in export-oriented jobs, is going to face a struggle in
      2005," Porter says.
