Documentary project Dreamland

07.04.15, 15:16
For a documentary project - working title DREAMLAND - and in a time where the term "Eastern Europe" becomes more and more obsolete, I want to capture the essence of what it is for Eastern Europeans to live in the West of the European Union.

When European Union had its biggest enlargement to the east ten years ago, many young people took the opportunity to look for jobs, studies or better living conditions in the West. As this trend hasn't stopped and there are more people than ever going westwards every year, I want to capture the current situation: How does the life look like, did expectations meet reality and what is left behind? To achieve that, I am looking at the issue in three stages: People living abroad, on the move and in the country of origin.

My first trip will focus on people already living abroad - in London (next Berlin and Paris) - and I would be thrilled to hear your story, have a little interview with you and take a portrait of you. That's it - the whole thing shouldn't take longer than two hours if you are busy, but of course I'd love to see your daily life if you wish to share more with me.

In this stage of planning, I would like to come to London the week between the 13th to 19th of April. If you would like to take part and you would have some time to welcome me to the place where you are living and/or working within this timeframe and spend a couple of hours with me talking about your life, please comment or contact me on info@fabianweiss.com. Of course, you will get the pictures also for your own use.
