Iran potepia aukcje Iranskich Tablets (USA-Izrael)

Tehran, July 3, IRNA
Iran-Tablet-Auction
Iran's Prosecutor General Qorbanali Dorri Najafabadi on Sunday condemned a US
federal court decision that authorizes auctioning of ancient mud tablets
dating back to the Achaemenid era, saying the decision is dreadful and
against international norms and regulations.

The invaluable pieces, relics of the magnificent Persopolis, seat of the
Achaemenid Empire of ancient Persia, and bearing inscriptions in cuneiform,
were smuggled to the US and would be put up for auction under the court
decision to compensate survivors of a 1997 bombing of Jerusalem.

Expected proceeds of 423.5 million dollars from the auction would be paid to
Israel.

Najafabadi called on the country's judicial branch to initiate moves to
preserve the inalienable right of the Iranian nation.

He said the auction of priceless national assets in order to satisfy a demand
of the Zionist regime would be regrettable.

"Disrespect of the cultural heritage of a nation inflicts spiritual damage on
all individuals and citizens of the country and should be investigated," he
said.

"The presence of artifacts from Iran's cultural heritage which showcase the
nation's great civilization at the University of Chicago (where the relics
are currently found) is itself a controversial issue particularly in light of
circumstances pointing to the fact that the ancient artifacts were given to
the university in trust," he added.

He expressed regret that the priceless tablets would be put up for auction in
favor of a regime that is notorious for its crimes and atrocities against
Palestinians that are increasing by the day.

He said the decision to auction the relics would add "another page to the
dark dossier of Zionist terrorism in occupied Palestine, Gaza Strip and
Syria" and noted that the decision comes at a time when the world's attention
is focused on the World Cup and living victims of the campaign for democracy
and fight against terrorism are forced to remain silent.

Najafabadi said the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, its judicial
system and prosecutor general's office will seriously defend the inalienable
rights of the Iranian nation with regard to this court ruling and will take
measures to enforce its rights under UNESCO conventions and international
law.

"We expect the international community, the United Nations and the UN
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to fulfill its
undertakings with regard to protecting the common heritage of mankind, the
great Iranian nation in particular," he said.

Iran: US court verdict endangers security of world cultural exchange
      Jul 4, 2006
      IRNA

Vice-President and Head of Iran's Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization
(ICHTO) Esfandiar Rahim Moshaei said here Tuesday that the recent ruling issued
by an American district judge on seizure of Iran's ancient mud tablets dating
back to the Achaemenid era would endanger security of world cultural exchange
at scientific centers across the globe.

Speaking to IRNA, he said according to an agreement, the mud tablets were sent
to the University of Chicago Oriental institute for studying and reading their
inscriptions in cuneiform but their recent measure for auctioning the tablets
is in contradiction with international laws and regulations.

A US federal court in defiance of international norms recently called for
auctioning of part of an invaluable collection of Persian treasure which were
sent 73 years ago to University of Chicago's Oriental Institute from Iran and
put the cash thus gained at the disposal of Israelis.

The University of Chicago has officially lodged a protest against to the ruling
issued by the US federal district court, he said.

Referring to the correspondence between ICHTO and University of Chicago, he
said in the complaint lodged against the verdict of the US district court, the
University of Chicago has urged that the case should be handled directly
without Iran's presence since the tablets and historical relics were put in
trust of the University of Chicago.

Since the compliant lodged by the University of Chicago has been rejected by
the US district court, the University has appealed to a higher Federal court to
      this end, he said.

Moshaei described the measure as unjust and politically-motivated.

ICHTO in collaboration with legal department of the Presidential Office is to
assign an attorney to pursue the case through legal channels, he said.

All cultural and scientific institutes and organizations around the globe are
expected to take stands against the US court ruling, he underlined.

"The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and all Iranians inside and
outside the country will not permit the US to seize cultural heritage of the
country contrary to international laws and we have declared in writing our
stands to International Court of Justice in the Hague, UNESCO, Iran's
representative to the United Nations and other authorized organizations," he
      said.

In case the US district court manages to sell the tablets, the buyers would
incur heavy losses since Iran is determined to follow up the case and bring the
tablets back to Iran, he said.

These are Iran's national assets which do not belong to the Iranian government
and no body in the world can make any decision on such national assets, he
      concluded.

      Iran-Tablet-UNESCO
Head of Center for Studies and Compilation of Iranian History, Abbas Salimi-
Namin, in a letter to the secretary general of UNESCO called for return of clay
tablets belonging to the late Elamite era to Iran, which is currently kept at
Chicago University's Institute of Oriental Studies.

According to the letter, more than 30,000 clay tablets, which were obtained
during excavations in Persepolis in 1935, were given to University of Chicago
on loan. The tablets were transferred to the US and delivered to the institute.

"As part of the cultural heritage of Iranian people, the tablets were due to be
returned to Iran upon completion of relevant studies and research.

"However, despite such agreement, the University of Chicago kept the tablets on
various grounds and pretexts and the administration of the university has so
far refrained from returning the historical artifacts to their original
      owners," said the letter.

In his letter, Salimi-Namin said that Iran's Cultural Heritage and Tourism
Organization in an official letter last year called for the return of this
      historical collection.

"However, not only have they not responded to our call so far, but based on
reports released within recent days, a US federal court issued a verdict on
seizure of Iran's cultural heritage by the US administration and auctioning
them. The expected proceeds from the auction will be paid to Israel," added the
      letter.

These tablets and historical assets of Iran were given and kept in trust at the
University of Chicago. They belong to the Iranian nation and are among cultural
      heritage of this country.

The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and all Iranians inside and
outside the country will not permit the US to seize cultural heritage of the
country contrary to international laws, the UNESCO regulations and
      international conventions.

According to UNESCO regulations and conventions approved on the issue of
cultural heritage, states are banned from capturing, seizing and even
transferring cultural heritage during wartime or a country's occupation.

A convention on adoption of necessary strategies to ban and prevent import and
illegal possession of cultural assets, which Iran also joined in 1974,
reiterates that each state is aware of moral necessities concerning respect for
cultural heritage of its own and that belonging to other countries.

"The matter of importance in this case is UNESCO's approach to the issue, which
can salvage part the cultural and historical heritage of Iran and the world.
This will serve as an efficient document to UNESCO's sense of duty," concluded
      the letter.

They'll stop at nothing to start a war.
Iran's permanent Ambassador at [UNESCO said] on Friday that Iran's official
protest against a US court's verdict to confiscate our country's cultural
heritage would be delivered to UNESCO within the next couple of days.

      * * *

He emphasized, "Since Iran and the United States are both members of UNESCO
1970 Convention, [UNESCO must] heed its cultural responsibility [and halt the]
illegal verdict issued by the US court.

An Illinois court of justice a while ago issued a verdict based on which the
bereaved family members of a terrorist attack in Israel can receive as
remuneration the Iranian historic artifacts kept at Oriental Studies Institute
      of Chicago University.
By this logic, every single cultural museum in America could be turned into a
vacant lot to compensate family members of US state sponsored terrorism around
      the globe.

      What an absurd precedent.
