How to translate the word into Polish? There are various solutions used in
Polish translations of books by Agatha Christie. Superintendent Battle is in
one book "inspektor", in another "nadinspektor", then "nadkomisarz". Which
one is correct?

Oczywiscie to "American English"

Ale nadinspektor to u nas jedna z najwyższych rang, a "superintendent" jest
gdzieś w środku hierarchii. Słownik Stanisławskiego proponuje "inspektor",
pewuenowsko-oksfordzki - "komisarz". Natomiast zupełnie odpada "kierownik"
czy "naczelnik", tu chodzi o oficera policji. Owszem, byłam już wcześniej na
tej stronie brytyjskiej, ale tu chodzi o odpowiednik polski. Na stronie MSWiA
nie ma linku do stopni.

link jest, jak znajdę to podeślę. nadkomisarz to chief inspector, komisarz
inspector. problem ze stopniami brytyjskim, w tym wojskowymi, jest od zawsze, bo
podziały hierarchii nieco inne:(

Dzięki!!! Faktycznie jest problem, bo w UK te rangi są inaczej rozłożone. Tam
po prostu nie ma ich aż tylu. Jest constabl, sergeant i od razu inspector,
chief inspector i superintendent. Chyba rzeczywiście z grubsza odpowiada to
nadinspektorowi, bo te skoki obejmują jakby więcej szczebli.

Jaż od początku nie kryłam, że chodzi o stopień w policji. Superintendent
Battle is one of the detectives in Agatha Christie books, as well as Poirot and
Miss Marple. Thanks anyway.
