I'm so surprised this thread is not full of contributions yet...
      ...statistically speaking?
It seems that there's an awful lot of "I" in English, but anyway what is the
      point of this?

Regretably it will be impossible to find 1000 words. There are a few most
commonly used in everyday american English.
        1. Fuck, fucking
        2. Youknow
        3. OK
        4. Kindof
        5. like
        6. get
        7. shit
        8. man

        Example:
Person A: " I got fucked, youknow. OK?"
Person B: " Get a fuck out of here "
Person A: " Shit, man. Youknow, kindof like, youknow."

I've heard newest statistics on english language usage in US and..as it appears
great majority of college students have a vocabulary that doesn't exceed 2000
words out of which they use only about 500 basic words. Compare that with 5 to
9 thousands words for the college kids prior to WWII...

Now it seems everyone prefers to say; "and I'm like" " and she's like" noone
uses words such as; "wonderfull , delightfull" anymore....

Perhaps the reason is that the population of "wonderfuls" and "delightfuls"
has diminished in the last six decades, so there are few people who could be
described by such adjectives. Most people, especially young ones, have become
            "likes".

Internet? such a waste of time. Just buy yourself a thin dictionary.

Longman Dictionary of Contemp. English has 2000. Maybe you could cross out
those you don't know and bingo! ;-))

If by any chance you would also need some information on what words were most
commonly used in the previous years, it's worth looking into Walery Pisarek's
book (as far as I remember "Retoryka"). He gives just 100 words but it might be
very interesting to discover what the differences are.
