Generally I know that ward, -it is a chemistry description for thinning, or
dessolving process, or reduce the concentration.....
In my case, I have to check the cobustion chumber of jet engine, for : dents,
cracs........and dilution./?/ It`s made of metal tin, and only outside surface
is a thing I can see...Could any one of you bring my imagination to the mind
of the author of boeing maintenance manuall?
Thank you !

      How about 'weakness' or weak spots, like in metal fatigue?

        Exactly.

        (figurative) There is no good reason for this dilution in/of the party's health
        policies. [U]

        dilute = weaken

            Hate to beat the dead horse.
            to dilute = to attenuate

            In your case it could mean thinning of the metal.
