Adult-friendly England

31.05.08, 19:41
Dear Jonny,

We are planning to move to England from New York City in a year or
so. So far, people (mainly Poles) told me that England, unlike
America, is very adult-friendly, I mean that adults can go out in
the evening and are not disturbed by other persons' ill-mannered
kids. Is that true that there are bars/restaurants out there with no
kids allowed or that in cinemas there are movies with no under 15
admitted? Regarding public transportation - are the passengers
exposed to someone's kids screaming/running/jumping/kicking, or
there is some discipline or respect required?

Finally, which town would you recommend for a child-free couple in
their thirties to live?

Lots of questions ;-)
Thanks in advance for your answer

Klara

      Hi Klara,
Coming from NYNY you would probably find life in a town pedestrian
in which case London is the place to head for. Like most cities
there are good and not so good areas of London. I was in Hammersmith
this morning and thought that looked like a decent place to live. As
Im sure you know, Hammersmith has a strong Polish community. I live
in West Central London manily because I like the area and there are
      lots of things to do.

Most people I know don't like travelling on London buses at night
due to (for eg) gang problems or drunken behaviour.

Outside London my area of choice is definately Dorset for its
stunning natural scenery and general way of life. Jonny :)

Would you mind answering other questions? ;-)

The points you raised: some bars/restuarants don't allow kids most
cinemas have age graded films for eg most be accompanied by an adult
or 18 + only. Please feel free fire more questions! :)
